    Honda Hornet CB900f - 2008 - REDUCED!

    The CB900 Hornet, known in the USA as the "919" is an immensely popular naked sports bike with impressive performance and agile handling.

    There are tens of thousands of these bikes all over the world. This re-registered Hornet is in excellent condition mechanically and cosmetically. It offers the purchaser the opportunity to get into a late model near liter sports bike at a bargain basement price.

    Reg till June, WOF till August 2011, the bike has Michelin Power Pure tyres recently fitted. It has been well looked after with regular servicing and is always garaged.

    Apart from the custom NZ made radiator guard, the bike is mechanically stock standard. It was a sickly orange colour when I bought it so I had it repainted in genuine Honda black. In conjunction with the black engine, the bike has a subdued but sophisticated look. Will pass any inspection.

    Reluctantly for sale by a fastidious, mature owner moving on to a shaft drive tourer. As a deal sweetener, I will throw in a new NZ made tail tidy worth $129 (not shown in photos).

    NB: Odometer reading will increase due to compulsive use during fantastic weather!

    out of interest, how many k's does it do out of a full tank ? and hoe many liters does the tank take ?

    Sad to see it go - what are you replacing it with?


    Tank is 19 litres. Happy running on 91 octane or 95 - there is no noticeable difference with either and manual & Honda men state 91 is fine.

    As with any inline 4 the mileage is relative to your right hand but they are extremely economical if you are keeping it legal plus a bit over cruise . Obviously a good thrashing will drink more.

    just buy it off him, you know you want it.

    Hi Mops, thanks for your question. Mate I really don't know but I got from Springfield to Greymouth on a tank last week and the reserve light was only just starting to come on so there would have been another 100 kms or so on that (I think). Just ask AllanB as he knows all the nitty gritty on these bikes.

    Hey Allan. Thanks for the info on the gasoline, I've never been too concerned about finding out the consumption as most of my trips are on Banks Peninsula which is close to home and gas stations.

    The jury is out on the replacement, it depends on whether wisdom or whim influences me the most. Possibly a busa as I've been having a bit of fun on these bikes recently - they are, shall we say, rather perky . Other contenders are the ZX-14, ZG-14, ST-13, FJR-13. I've even had a good test ride on a Street Rod which went and handled surprisingly well due to the lower rake angle. Guess its no surprise that HD discontinued this V-rod variant due to poor sales to the Look-At-Me brigade...

    I was a bit surprised to see what I thought were Kanji characters on your new Hornet mufflers . Don't tell me Yoshimura got wind of your project and decided to sponsor you? PM me if you are bound to a non-disclosure agreement.

    Haha - no unfortunately Yoshi did not phone me!

    I had my project pipes 90% complete, even one side finished and painted - then there was a accident in the shed with a cat cage involving 'another' member of the household .... resulting in a nice big scratch in the uncured paint. I went off the boil then on the pipes for months. Started back with the intention of completing them and popped on to wristtwisters one lunch break about 3 months ago and a US member had just listed the Yoshis for sale, under 12 months old, low, low miles, silly good price and he was happy to send to NZ. Consquently they now grace my Hornet

    I then completed the remaining metal work on the project pipes and sold them All good as they are now a set of project pipes for a Buell

    Now I do have a nice bit of alloy in the shed for a project tail tidy ...........


    Fuel wise on the 900 - I can get a old fashioned 50 mph on a open road 'almost' legal trip. Light the wick and it will drop, I've seen 300 on the trip meter on a tank with the light coming on, but like you I spend a fair bit of time around the local hills so fuel has not been a issue.

    Sounds like you have some serious test riding coming up - a B-Kiing is worth a look too but the cartoon pipes must go!

    Ah Steve - I've noticed you now haunt the KB classifieds telling everyone their bikes are worth less. Really if you’re not interested why shit on someone’s advert – just leave it alone as the real buyers will obviously dictate a final price.

    FYI
    There are 9k Hornets in dealers at the moment with around 15k on the clocks, I’ve actually seen some advertised used dearer than I paid for mine new!
    Heck way back in 02 when released they were $15K – but this is irrelevant when selling as is what a dealer was running one out at to clear stock 2 years ago as it has no relevance to the current market.

    An astute watcher of the bike market will notice that there is a hole around the 8-12k mark for bikes – presently dealers are pricing bikes here that 3 or more years ago were available as ‘special prices’ not far off that (Hornet, SV, VTR).

    The private market will set itself, dictated by the highs of people who don’t actually want to sell their bike but have listed it to appease a nagging partner and the lows of the poor buggers trying to put food on the table.

    Well thank you chaps for batting on my behalf - I was wondering how to respond...

    However, in case anyone else reading the thread had similar thoughts to the self appointed KB consumer advocate - please bare in mind the following:

    1) When selling anything, one can always lower the price but its difficult or impossible to increase it.
    2) The TM ad says quite clearly - OR NEAR OFFER (I may be tempted to accept a lower price, particularly from a KBer [except crazy ones] ).
    3) I don't need to sell the bike and would be quite happy to hang onto it if I didn't want a Hayabusa so bad!
    4) For the asking price or thereabouts, I believe the purchaser is getting a bloody lot of bike for the money - just ask anyone who's got one.

    Your price is fine, dunno what Steve is talking about. Never saw them for 9k during their "run out" - I only ever saw them at 10 - 11k not including onroad costs.

    I would definitely consider your Hornet a bargain.

    I would get anywhere between 230 - 300 km on my Hornet on the open road at either end of the riding spectrum.

    They are a great bike and well worth the money asked. I also have some debaffled pipes that make the bike sound sweet, also on trade me.

    Good luck with the sale CeeJay, nice to meet you at the WNR last week.
    These aren't the bikes we're looking for....
