I'd be up for that. Mrs. B would be keen and I think a lot of others put off by the Wed night antics.

No, the concept of these rides WAS fantastic. It's been completely lost now.

I spat the dummy last year and refused to ever ride with them again after almost being killed numerous times before the bloody summit. I stopped at the summit on my own and went home, I was fuming. I have refused to go on one since, however I feel that Uncle B's memory should actually be kept alive which is why I am thinking anout trying to do what he did with the rides so it is safe and crusiy for noobs.

hmm, seriously thinking of it. People would have to be receptive to the idea though and when I posted a thread last year after getting home from the last ride there was alot of "waaaaaaaaaaaaah" and no personal responsibility.
I also know that I have made alot of 'enemies' by speaking up, not that I care about those people's opinions....

Fuckin 'a. How bad is it when you avoid the ride because of these issues and still just about get taken out by someone who was on it. Strikes me as ironic. The only reason I can still post this is that I was expecting the ride to be coming the other way and therefore being extra careful.

Yes and it is unfortunate as the 'kid' who was involved with your altercation is actually a really neat guy and I have no doubt he would be remorseful and hopefully learn from this.
What grates me is that this riding is obviously being accepted or it would not occur on the ride.
Uncle B used to do a riders briefing, outlining the 'rules' clearly and telling people that they wold be told to fuck off if they endagered anyone. The people who wanted to ride their own ride without rules would go first. We would meet them at the detination. Alway's worked and at the time we had alot of noobs turn up and really enjoy themselves.

To be fair - I have been a quite a few of these rides this summer, and last summer, and there hasn't been an issue, and everyone has been responsible and not out of line. But of course, have also heard of those rides when that has not been the case.

Most of us there are not like this, and truely just head along for a ride with the group, at a pace we feel comfortable with. Yes, I am very fresh at all of this, and mostly sit at the back on my cruiser. I just hope that one person being a twit doesn't ruin what is proving to be a great weekly event for many of us. I for one know it's something that I look forward to each and every week, and seem to find the other riders that I can fit into the group with at an appropriate pace for skill level etc.

Yea Hels, I think I know who it is. Young guy at the parts counter. I still might have a quiet chat with him about it. I intend to be polite...

It's also important to note that as I have absolutely zero to do with this particualr ride, never have and probably never will, it's not my place to tell it's participants how to behave, that's up to the regulars (Katie, Quasi, Eugene, anyone)

I'm simply pointing out that someone might wanna have a quick word at the start of the ride and take some ownership before something bad occurs.

Peace out and good luck guys.

Three basic ground rules should apply.
    1. No overtaking on the hill (unless using a designated overtaking lane and it can be completed safely - following rules 2 and 3).
    2. Keep to the 2 second rule on the hill (or 4 if wet / windy)
    3. No crossing the centre line at any stage

Rule 1 - If you are stuck behind a slower rider - use it as the opportunity to provide advice on lines or admire their arse. By not overtaking you cannot scare the shit out of someone nor risk violating rule 3
Rule 2 - If anyone makes a mistake you aren't going to collect / write someone off
Rule 3 - If you do - you are riding beyond your ability or conditions.

Yes - rules suck and we have too many... but rules are needed for the arrogant or dumb providing safety for others. It seems people need reminding since this ride is open to anyone & seems to get one or 2 without common sense.

Seriously though, if this is how the majority of regulars want to play it, then make it so. It may not need such "rule setting" at all though, maybe just a "Settle down or fuck off" speech.

Looks to me like you've found someone to take ownership (and there's a difference between ownership and responsibilty) folks, Dave looks like your man. With perhaps Hels for a bit of muscle when required

Maybe the fuckoff speech would be enough. I know it's early days for summer, but there were a lot more bikes at the peak of TCWNR. I'm sure experiences have put a few off (Helen and Hans noted) for valid reasons. Would be nice to get these people back on and learn from them / build friendships (awwww group hug )

I'd be happy to lay down the law when I am there, problem is I cannot commit to be there regularly ("the thumb" doth rule plus other commitments).

Rules posted above can be read out by anyone. I suggest one of the key members reads the F'off speech at the beginning. With a few of us in agreement (Eugene whilst he is here, or we could phone him in when he's moved to Aus, Katie, sels - any other regular) - I'm sure a consistent message could be pitched the start of the ride.

May I set the poor boy straight to all that are following this thread....

As always there are 2 sides to the story and so far we have only heard 1 from the guy that was coming the other way not wanting to go on the wednesday rides for his own reasons.
The other side of the story was told to me from the young boy riding as soon as he got off the bike at the pub he came straight up to me and said "I fucked up"
I said what did you do, and he said "I was following a real slow lady driver in a car and I thought the road was clear ahead, so I pulled out to overtake her, and at that moment is when another bike came the other way, so i quickly pulled back in again" I said hmmm thats wasnt such a good move and he agreed.

Assuming it wasnt done at speed as he was stuck behind a slow driver, and didnt intentionally mean to pull out and cause a near miss between 2 bikes, by now I think hes realised it wasnt such a good move.

He is young and rides a 250 and the rides are for low experience riders and cruisers, so looking at what happened, I reckon he was on the correct ride.
A: He is now that little more experienced.....
B: Im sure hes learnt from this episode and wont attempt another dumb passing manoeuver unless he is certain the way is clear.
C: NO ONE can control what a single rider does on his own bike when he is on a public road, it is up to the individual to ride responsibly and carefully to the best of their ability.

So lets not judge a rider or even the whole wednesday night ride because of a small incident (which could have turned nasty, but didnt) from 1 rider.

Lets all learn from the mistake and move on.

Like katie pie said she's never had a problem, Ive never had a problem on the rides either.

Last week did we call the 675 man a COCK for running off the road because he didnt take a corner?

and 1 question for Hans.... Have you EVER made a bad decision in your motorcycling career?? (if you say no your are lying... if you say yes shall we call you a cock and never ride with you again?)

lets move on from this, He didnt mean to do it intentionally!
