Bike bogs down and misses when throttle opened.

My Honda GL145 was running sweet this morning on my way into Christchurch from Rangiora. I was humming along down Lineside Rd at 100km/h, when suddenly it started to miss and bog down.

I limped into town. It would run as long as I barely touched the throttle past 1/8th.

When I got into town I checked my spark plug. It's got a platinum plug in it which was pretty fouled up. I changed the plug with another one. That didn't help.

I checked that my timing wasn't off (as best I could) last time my bike did this it was caused by the bolt holding the turny thing in place being loose. That was nice and tight.

I limped home again after an excellent roast lamb (thanks Mum!)

I drained the float bowl and pulled the carb out. I checked all the jet to make sure they weren't clogged and put it back together. I checked the air filter and it was all clear. My fuel delivery system seems fine. Fuel filter and feeder line are all clear.

I put it all back together. Still have the same result.

Where do I go too next?

Could I be sucking in air between the carb and the engine? What would the symptoms of this be?

an air leak between the head and inlet manifold will run poorley at idle and maby you will hear a hissing and will make run real lean so clean plug i would get rid of the plat plug for starters as these are no good for older bikes especially on our poor quality fuel, if you need any help i have a workshop down tuam street 438 feel free to come in and see me for any advise or contact me patt on 027 728 4888

It's definitely not running lean. And it idles fine. Only when it's revved under load does it crap out.

Why are platinum plugs no good in older bikes? It's just a bigger spark isn't it?

Can you PM me your hourly rate? If I can't sort it I might have to bring it in for you to give it the once over.
