    I think you heard wrong buddy..

    The advice was for when the accelerator pedal was stuck on or the Cable was stuck on, Instead of changing down gears, hold your foot on the clutch and then brake.

    If you leave it in gear whilst it is wringing its nuts off then you are still being propelled forward making it harder to stop. Once stopped then turn your vehicle off. If you turn your car off before hand you lose braking and Power steering Abilities..

    I know in my litte 1.5 car i can do 55-60k in first whilst its balls are being wrung dry..

    Having experienced a jammed accelerator at more than open road speeds quite some years ago in a goey(cortina mkIII tank) with shit brakes, I took it out of gear and used a grass verge and gorse fence to slow her down to a stop. Bloody thing did it to me twice
