Though I hope you have some spare body parts to sell when you have to pay for parts for it. Someone I know has recently discovered that with his ktm.

Did you get half way around the first lap, stop, let it cool down, change the oil, change the filters, check the valve clearances, then carry on for the rest of the lap?

Or did you do an entire lap in 1 hour then do the first service ?

Yeah I can see the engine parts are similar but this just happened to be a specific KTM advantage/ailment.

Well mate I wouldn't think it would take a genius to work out that when you have to replace a hydralic clutch setup compared to replacing a cable setup, it tends to cost you a bit more.

Every bike has it's pros and cons, you needed to be more clear on the clutch that is not ktm specific, my husky has a hydraulic one to and I reckon the cost of a hydraulic clutch is a worthwhile trade. Mind you ktm not selling bushes for the 300 estart was a bit on the rough ( I believe they are now ).

The sxf sounds a very cool bike, no one i know up here has one yet that I know anyway , though I did hear they are capable of going swimming and coming back to life after normal surgery ( it was full submersion ).

As a relative newbie to off road bikes (been 8 years since I last had one) I'm looking VERY forward to taking our demo 350 SXF out for a hoon next weekend.

Huh? When does the hydraulic clutch ever go?

I tell you what I've had every flavour of bike and I'm never riding anything else. The last YZ250 I had cost me over $2500 worth of maintenance in one go. Linkages/forkseals. Can't even remember the list that went wrong.

The last 2 KTM's have been fantastic, only thing that ever went was the forkseals. And no, they don't cost any more than the japanese bikes for parts. ( Unless you're talking about a 1995 EXC, explains itself. )

iv had crf250s, cr125s, yz250s etc etc and took them all swimming once or twice... never had any issues?

Haha I was on that ride, I'm assuming your talking about Jeff who had an Incident at the Farm over labour weekend, he was one very lucky boy, bike stalled pretty much straight away, only about 5 mins of messing around to get the thing started with minimal fuss. We were on the outer boundary of the farm it would've been a long walk back.

That'd be the one, we were wandering around the farm on Sunday & Mike got us all to jump over that water hole , oddly enough I managed it successfully, though damned if I know how I bruised the tops of both my feet.

honda_power, for sure it's expected for a bike to recover, but the 350 was real new then & I don't think there were many in the country, so if it was screwed it would not have been a good look.

When the rider has a crash and breaks it.

I am sure hydralic clutch is probably better but my cable one seems to function fine. I guess you would justify it when your hands aren't moving freely the next day.
