    Manly ads

Do people buy into all this man shit that's being advertised at the moment. Im mean the new Ranfurly ads, the mantrol car ads, I think there's one for Speight's too. It seems pretty stupid to me, are New Zealand men that insecure about their masculinity that they need to buy stuff that's specifically advertised to them as being a manly thing to have/do? It's like that car ad a few years ago with the guys at a BBQ who all have high voices because they don't have this particular car, then a dude pulls up in one and his voice is all deep and manly sounding. If I saw someone diving round in one of those ( I can't remember what it is now) I would think they are trying to compensate for something.
    Rant over... for now.

You see the difference between advertising and marketing?
Do you realise how many holes there could be if people would just take the time to take the dirt out of them?

I think they're just supposed to be funny, except the Mantrol one of course.

Doesn't take much to get your panties in a bunch, does it Spaz?

To be honest, no it doesn't. But do people really need to buy 'manly' products to feel manly? I would've thought it had more to do with how you feel and act. Maybe I'm old fashioned, but the people who I look up to don't need to have things that they are told are manly to feel manly, they are manly and secure without all that shit.

Going by the raft of ads aimed at the feminine gender there must be a shitload of insecure sheilas out there.....

Interesting argument .. this one happens to be smack in the middle of my expertise ...

Short answer ? The ads work because people buy the products or the message - if they didn't work advertisers would not use these techniques ...

Do men feel more manly owning these products ? or are masculine men attracted to these products because they appeal to their masculinity ? Both positions are defendable, and supported by media research ...

But hey .. remember this ? Mick and Keith didn't buy this shit back then ...

    When I'm watchin' my TV
and that man comes on to tell me
how white my shirts can be.
Well he can't be a man 'cause he doesn't smoke
    the same cigarrettes as me.
I can't get no, oh no no no.
Hey hey hey, that's what I say.

    I can't get no satisfaction

They are REAL men who don't need the media to tell them what to do. I mean shit, Keith is the Antichrist of anti drug lobbyists. Not many people could fall out of a coconut tree and be none the worse for it.
