Shoei Qwest

Just bought a new Shoei Qwest - a new one from them they describe as touring but I would say sports/touring. It is light for its price, really well made, seems very stable with little buffeting and pretty damn quiet on Triumph Trophy with a screen that dumps it all right at my helmet.
Coming from a helemt with flip front and drop down internal dark visor sunglass thing I love its no frill no sill extras I dont need and are just a fiddle.
Recommended.

I went and tried the Qwest and the XR1100 on the weekend.

I'm torn - apparently the XR has better ventilation and it does have a fully removable and washable liner whereas the Qwest only has some bits removable and washable.

(Plus I really like the "El Capitan" paint scheme which is only on the XR, but that's not so important, I guess)

there are some bad-ass Qwest colourways too: theres a matt black and vivid orange I really like, and a black and red also. the thing with that Shoei is you have to budget for a whisper kit, and a dark visor, so another $200+ on top of your purchase price.

Did you notice that they fit quite differently? I already own a XR1100 but when the Qwest came out I thought I'd try one on..didn't suit at all.
I also found that the XR1100 has more room if one has a bit of a jaw or snozza
Both models come with a PinLock visor and insert...dark tinted PinLock visors are $99.

I was gonna get an El Capitan XR1100 but ended up getting an Airfoil TC-5 Qwest after deciding against the Bloodflow. It's amazingly quiet and comfortable but I'd probably like some better ventilation. At the moment I tend to ride around town with the visor lock set to the slightly ajar setting and there's only wind noise when I turn my head sideways. The chin curtain certainly cuts down a lot of noise but probably contributes to it getting pretty hot. I'm picking a whisper kit will be worse

Not exceptionally differently - neither one felt "bad" - I have to go back with the bike (which has been named Boris) and take each for a testride.

I can't bring myself to purchase a helmet called "Bloodflow" - it just seems a bit like tempting fate to me. Bit silly, but there you go.

The guy there reckoned the Qwest was better for upright bikes and the XR11 was better from sprots bikes (in terms of how the ventilation worked).

I'll report back once I've taken each for a ride (dunno when that will be though...)

EDIT: I'm not particularly bothered about the noise - any ride longer than about 5 minutes I wear earplugs for anyway.
