Bah Humbug! And this from the company whose advert ends "New Zealands Best cuts of lamb. Now available in New Zealand" . Sounds like a bunch of tight bastards to me? Funny Ad though.

Oops, was a bit indignant until I read the whole clip, it is not as bad as it sounds and when the company offered to allow the two minutes to be worked and paid as "overtime" at the end of the day ..... the Union refused it!

I think the company were generous in their offer as it was the way their systems were set up!

The system didn't have two minutes silence allowances built into it FFS!

Never really noticed the add before so had a look, right on mashman, funny add!

It's bullshit and everyone knows it's bullshit, I'd expect an apology to follow shortly.

Pretty retarded of the union to be so inflexible. Same goes for the company though.

I honestly do not know how some of these people are put in decision making positions...

Pay docked?? Really reading this it would seem they are not on an hourly rate but a per carcase rate so they lost what a couple of dollars, boo hoo families on the coast have lost their jobs or loved ones, and this crap makes national news.

Then to top it all off the plant was lost in a fire, the $2 that they lost is going to do what for them, buy their kids a packet of smarties.

Many people I know have stayed at work after the bell sounds to finish up task there was not time to do during our shifts, and that time maybe 30 minutes, a day so a couple of hours a week adds up to a hell of a lot more than a couple of dollars.
Its not the destination that is important its the journey.

what do you expect? this is NZ and to make matters worse, we're currently under a National or Nazional grubbermint.
the grubbermint should be rebuilding the meatworks and letting the company pay it back over many years, those people need to stay employed.

So, the Union says it's not about the money yet they complain when the pay is cut by a dollar or so?

Silver Fern Farms chief executive Keith Cooper said all workers were encouraged to observe the two-minute silence: "As the meat workers are remunerated on the basis of throughput, Silver Fern Farms offered the union the opportunity for workers to process the missed two animals at the end of day as overtime," he said.

The union declined this offer in the spirit of comradeship with the West Coast workers, Mr Cooper said.

Sounds like they just want to be paid to have the spirit of comradeship.

Comradeship at the cost of someone else is not exactly a self-sacrifice of a comrade, is it?

    Want, do. Don't, don't.

I must talk to Admin about getting an appropriate sarcasm 'smilie'. I almost took your post seriously for a moment.
