More food price hikes on the way?

The article is a little vague, but it's more of a possibility than not? Fuel and GST have gone up, as have ACC Employee Levies, "producers" will have to up their prices to compensate for loss of profit and the news from some economist isn't exactly encouraging.

And I reckon its hard to eat nowadays without it.....unless you grow it yourself.

Im surprised that more people dont....I'd be happy to sell stock for the same price I'd get per kg at the sales, its the other 70% added on after that makes it expensive.
So if you pay for the homekill dude,pay me the going rate at the mo which is somewhere around $3.20 or so, get it cut up how you want(excluding saussies & corned beef) works out for you around $6.00 per kg. Talking Beef here. But most people cant be fucked or cant afford a 1/4 or 1/2 a beast.
Or rock up on yer boik to the sales, truss up them thar sheep on yer pack rack & Bobs yer uncle.
So yeah, go find a farmer....there's still a few in business.

Or grow veggies....easier still.

I've "farm-bought" beef (split amongst various family) and will do the same for pork in the near future - the "home-kill" operator was licensed to do the butchery thing.
Others in my work-place, who are on lifestyle blocks and grow their own, also use licensed operators. In this example, "home-kill" is a bit of a mis-description.

The taste sensation was worth the effort.

It's all fine and well people being able to "buy" part of a cow. Some people have the money available to do these things... unfortunately the MAJORITY don't. Are we giving a shit about the majority these days? ... So if you have no land and no animals, you have to buy or steal your food... TPTB don't give a fuck because it's not their look out... could be that TPTB aren't the only ones

I was back in NZ 2 years ago after being away for 8 yrs and was horrified at the general cost of living compaired to the states. Every day stuff, food, drinks all atleast double the price after exchange rate taken into account. Meat especially more than double. The average persons wage here is similar to NZ dollar for dollar so it is cheaper to survive here. But I really miss the place for all its faults...

My family and friends get beef off me and they says its getting hard but they can buy a share of the animal then it is in their ownership too which makes it sweet as .
well so i am told , maybe i am wrong but i think there is more to sort out before they try to get onto people getting some decent meat instead of the shitty cull cow in super markets.
the meat on air new zealand first class is from shitty cull cows.
i wont name the processors that have the contract but they were openly telling farmers when they got the contract to supply air nz.
you cant beat home killed meat,
we rear red vealers and man are they the best steaks out.
even the blade steak of them are magic bbqed.
we buy pigs direct of the growers and it is legal.
the abbatoirs slaughter them for us and send and we just pick up the carcass and drop off to the butcher .
My wife and kids drink the cows milk but it is too rich for me ,
I do think about what townies eat for meat when i see the prices in the supermarket.

Maybe it's time to get another freezer and approach you guys directly. We've been shopping from day to day as with just the two of us now and the Supermarket just down the road it's been easy but I've really noticed the price rises lately and with a freezer we could buy for the family and share costs.
