A new type of damage-tolerant metallic glass, demonstrating a strength and toughness beyond that of any known material, has been developed and tested by a collaboration of researchers with the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE)'s Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory (Berkeley Lab)and the California Institute of Technology. What's more, even better versions of this new glass may be on the way ...

"Glass" in this sense,refers to the fact the substance is noncrystalline.
It does not mean it is transparent

... bit like fibre glass then, kinda, if ya know what i mean... sounds interesting though, wonder if you could fabricate a house out of the stuff

Don't you remember in the well known documentary film Star Trek IV:The Voyage Home, they had to get some of this stuff, so they could get the whales back to the 23rd century?

What are they teaching in schools these days.?
