Dire Straits "Money For Nothing" waaay too offensive for Canada

Yes folks, 25 years after it was released, the Canadian Broadcasting Standards people have ruled the unedited song is offensive to gay, lesbian, transgender and I forget the other (bisexual) people because it uses the word "Faggot" three times.

Having heard and enjoyed the song these past 25 years, I now intend to cut off my ears, AND Complain to our broadcasting standards people because obviously I too am a terrible person.

this would be hilarious, except its serious.

Seems like a lot of fuss, I know British cuisine isn't brilliant but I didn't realise we upset people that much with our cooking.

Yet again those Homer Cycles have taken over a perfectly good English word for their own nefarious purposes.
'Gay' used to be acceptable to use in polite conversation as was 'faggot'.

'balls' will never be acceptable, being a euphemism for bollocks

It's a constant swinging pendulum, and the PC nonsense is having a resurgence - mainly around the Gay Rights hysteria.

Before Christmas I was rather surprised to hear The Pogues' "Fairytale of New York" on the radio, with the entire "Merry Christmas you maggot, you cheap lousy faggot..." verse edited out.

edit: Sorry Virago, I see you got in well before me, guess I should read the thread before posting DOH!

Canada can be like that - as Kevin Bloody Wilson found out...I'm sure everyone knows this...

Lets try and see the positive - sales of Dire Straits will probably rocket in Canada now.

Probably the best PR they can get for a 25 year old song!
