Small piece of sheet metal wanted

The supplied handlebar mounting bracket for the controller of the Oxford hotgrips won't work.

I'm keen to make my own handlebar mounting bracket.

Has anyone got any 1mm (or thereabouts) sheet steel offcuts in Wellington I could have? something like 100mm x 100mm would give me more than enough to play with. Can drop a few coins in your palm for your troubles.

    Cheers,
    Dave.

I've got a lot of 3mm aluminium at home, pretty sure have 100 x 100 if this would suit you.
On a Triumph, alloy would look better

Thanks man. I'm not a metal worker by trade. Don't really have the gear - so if it can be "bent" and retain the bent shape- then it might do.

I don't need anything too chunky - hence 1mm - 1.5mm thick steel sheet would probably do. I'll send you a pm. - cheers.

    G'day Chris,

Well, I started with that piece of aluminium you gave me and made the mistake of measuring once and cutting twice

So, rather than face defeat or embarrassment for asking for more, I found an old PC supply case. With the trusty angle grinder, I hacked out a piece and fashioned a bracket. all mounted. In my haste to put it on (before the paint had fully dried) I scraped it, but at least it is on.

Photos to follow (when the kids let me have the home computer again).

You utilising the carbon-fibre piece I gave you also for the extra bit of bling?

I decided not to put it on. Can give it back to you if you like. After my failed first attempt, I thought I wouldn't tempt fate and try cutting it. As it is, I'm not sure the paint job on the bracket is rust proof, so will let it weather over the next few weeks to see how it goes.

Here's the piece of Ferrari engineering (notice the strategically drilled extra hole to remove unnecessary weight):

I'm big and certainly tough, but I get cold hands. Besides, nipples don't like cold hands.
