Any Mitzi cage mechanics out there?

I'm busy stripping the head off a RVR Sports gear(2L auto) but can't get the head loose. I've taken the 8 head bolts out but the head won't budge. There are 3 bolt's in the middle that look like they require an allen key to lossen. Do these 3 bolts also hold down the head to the block and need to come out or is it just a case of breaking the seal between the block and the head.
    Don't want to force it!

Can't find a manual anywhere that goes into enough detail so busy using trial and error.

    It's got a 4G63 engine in it.
I'm only wearing black until they develop something darker

If anything like the old 16L 's I worked on late last century, the three socket head plugs in the centre are like core plugs for casting. Don't take them out.

No bolts at the front (where the cam belts or chains go)?
it's not a bad thing till you throw a KLR into the mix.
those cheap ass bitches can do anything with ductape.

    Hey thanks guy's.

Just a little bit of TLC required on each side with a piece of wood and a large hammer to break the seal. Then a broom handle to lever it up.

Now to find out how many valves are buggered and need replaced

    Not a Toyota - It's a Mitzi.

Wasn't a broken timing belt that was the problem.

Bottom auxilary pulley consists of 2 pulley's joined by rubber. Rubber disintegrated causing the 2 pulleys to come apart. I changed the pulley and everything was sweet for 3-4 day's. Unbenown to me, when the rubber disintegrated, some of the bits managed to get inside the timing belt cover.
4 day's after the repair, the bits dropped between the belt and bottom crank pulley causing the belt to jump teeth.

Spoke to a number of mechanics who tell me they would have just replaced the auxilary pulley as I did. They would not have stripped the whole thing down.

It's only when I stripped everything off that I found the root cause.

Love how people laugh at others when shit happens. I hope you never have any misfortunes mate! I'll laugh my fucking tit's off.

Just turn the head upside down and fill the chambers with fuel...and see which ones are leaking.

    Yeah Thanks for that Crash!

I'm actually in the process of doing that. I also need to check the top of the pistons in case I've done some damage to them. Hoping not.

It's been a long time since I've done this kind of open heart surgery on a motor. Last time was on a mkII Capri quite a few years ago. Just a little bit different and a bit more to think about with the modern motors

If they have met with the pistons, it should be reasonably easy to spot. Best of luck with the rebuild!!

Replace them with 4G63T(?) version ones, they are coated with something (titanium) and worth their weight in gold.
My Sapporo had a full set - ran like a dream which is great considering the car was from 1983!

Also check that some muppet has not put the evo cams in it - will throw the valves in to deep. Its one of those situations where its all the same motor....but its not and there are slight differences.

    Hi Avgas,

Cage is bog standard. it is just a run around that I recently purchased from TM to transport my daughter, shopping etc. Repair will be minimum cost. Was just unlucky that the pulley went 3 weeks after the purchase. Not the previous owners problem. They wouldn't have had a clue that the pulley was about to go.
What are 4G63T's ? valves or pistons? Much different in cost?

    Actually Yes!

DIY mechanic who has survived for a number of years by doing my own work. Have rebuilt quite a few engines in my time but always replaced parts like for like.
Never ever looked at mods. Always asked advice from more knowlegable than myself.
Normaly explain what I'm doing while ordering parts and take recommendations from the experts at the time which is normally the main dealers.

Has worked very well up to now.
