and also possibly some sensor lights outside..

Are there any electricians on KB that could be interested in a one off cash job over an evening or weekend?? Mrs Mully has promised she will also bake and make you coffee/tea

Nope......... homeowner/occupier can do as per the Electrical Code of Practice, something like replace a light in bathroom with the heat/fan/light unit. Install outside lights and parallel it off another switch. They are however not permitted to fiddle with the wiring in the switchboard, or connect to the switchboard.
Worked in data entry for govt in electricity sector so a lot of this stuff is ingrained in my head! Read it often enough and refer to it on a daily basis and you get to pretty much know a lot of the law.

My understanding is that you need a cert of compliance from an electrician if you do stuff like this... so might as well get someone to do the whole job..

Easy enough for new installations or modern wiring but old houses can be annoying. I tried to do some work on my place and now the lights in my bedroom and study don't work

Turns out the old lighting was all the same colour (red) so after I'd ripped all the switches out I didn't have a fekkin clue where it all went.

Done some plug points and stuff though, not too hard.

Under ECP51 a homeowner has certain rights of things they can do in their own homes, so if the homeowner changed old light fittings for new ones then no CoC is required. An electrician who works for payment or reward (baked treats included) needs a CPL and to CoC their own work. If as a homeowner you are not confident to DIY then it is best to get someone qualified in.....
