76 confirmed dead, families, businesses, homes and property destroyed forever yet even in this country's darkest hour we still have to put up with these opportunistic, heartless thieving scum.

As an ex-firefighter I am increasingly frustrated that my skills and experience aren't needed in Christchurch, as a Human being I will happily offer my services to be part of the firing squad to eliminate this filth from our society.

From yesterdays footage, the TV just showed pictures of a young boy and girl holding each other and waiting outside a building that they believed their solo Mom was trapped in. Presumably recognized from the footage and info, the bastard thieves took the opportunity to ransack the kids home whilst they were busy crying their eyes out waiting for their Mom.....May they rot in Hell for their lack of human decency!
    Oh bugger

It's not vigilante justice. In most "western" countries (except for most of those European sweety, darling countries) operating under emergency or martial administration, looters are shot on sight. Also on site, for those of you still spelling impaired, so that the meaning and usage of the two words can be made clear. Any of you not getting it are probably potential looters anyway.

There's nothing vigilante about military or Police personnel shooting looters. In most countries where skirts haven't completely supplanted trousers in Government that is.
If a man is alone in the woods and there isn't a woke Hollywood around to call him racist, is he still white?

Shooting is too good for these type of scum.

Lock them in the stocks and have the community dish out their own punishment!

It's terrible for sure guys. However I don't understand how people were surprised and didn't expect this to happen with these 'tough economic times'. It's dog eat dog these days... even in our country.

Build a pillory in latimer square!!

The real shame of that would be the fact that those that are most affected will be too occupied with other things to spend any time or thought for the scum in the joug.

Actually jougs would be far more cost effective to build.

I agree with some of what you say - the bit about we shouldn't have been surprised, considering the shitheels we are propagating in society.

In terms of dog eat dog, these are only mongrels and should have been put down at birth. Instead they are now roaming the streets in packs and are a menace to society.

If it was a dog, you really would shoot it.

Did any of the looters from the last earthquake get caught, and did they get a decent sentence?

not sure. In queensland all the penalties were doubled. Military justice is the answer: up against the wall bang band.

Except for me when I loot Gun City of course. I'll be tooled up like Woody Harrelson in Zombieland.

It's greed pure and simple. They are not stealing for need as they are provided for with food, water and shelter. Even skanked up junkies will know how wrong this is.

Name, photgraphs, place of work (haha) address, family etc and shame. Posters outside their homes detailing their crimes.

Also in the wrong are those who buy "too good to be true" deals in pubs and similar. If you buy a 50" tv from a junkie out of the back of a beaten up ute for $100 you may as well have stolen it yourself.

It just saddens to me to think there is people with so little testicular fortitude out there, that they can steal from the volunteers, the grieving, the dead etc etc.

Given its a state of emergency these sad pricks should be shot.

There is no possible excuse for such low behavior.
