    Random police checkpoint

Leaving work yesterday (not on the bike at the time) I walked past what looked like some kind of random police checkpoint targetting bikers.
This is in the middle of rush hour traffic on Symonds St in Auckland.
There were 2x police bikes on the footpath, and about 3x cars down the side road St Martins Lane.
I saw about 5 bikers pulled over...all of which seemed to be smaller bikes, or ones with L plates.

Anyone know what was going on?

Any decent biker stuck in a cage would have dropped a big fat burnout and taken the heat off the L-Platers........

I knew they'd start doing the checks around uni, just didn't know when or where.. Makes sense really.

Fuck them all... we've already got it hard enough as poor students.

My mate got fined 600 dollars on his first day of uni... bike over 250cc, no L plate, learners license and no rego, wof ''invalid'' because of tyres apparently. Another guy he knew got 400 for wof expired 2 days ago and no reflector.

Bloody hard times already and the cunts show no mercy.

They'll ask: "why aren't you wearing a high-vis jacket?". To which you reply "why aren't you stopping the three cars that just cut me off without checking that their lane was clear?"

Well in all honesty, sounds like he was lining up for that one. Common sense will get you a mile. Sucks for him, but maybe he'll wise up and stick to some basic rules.

So does this mate plan on riding the same bike in again tomorrow?

Just think of it as exam, except in the real world, where there are sometimes actual consequences for when you fail.

or, explain that high vis only works in the same situations as a headlight should, 60W of fury baby! It does fuck all against visual obstructions and piss poor cager judgement (often caused by motion camouflage). It is far better to ride defensively with the knowledge that a active mind will be of far more use than a colorful/shiny bit of cloth.

Why and how did you pull me over if you couldn't see me?

I guess you must have been looking, or should that be targeting, bikes.

so he broke 5 laws and your bitching about them doing there job. Sounds like he was lucky to only get a $600 fine and not walking.
