I didn't think!!! I experimented!!!
Without reading too much... when the old church in what was West Berlin, on the main road was bombed (yes different circumstances totally) they didn't rebuild it... they left it as a memory of what happened and its now a museum of sorts. They did build a new church ... I would like them to do the same. To remind the powers that be, that Chch needs to be made safe for its people. History is irreplaceable 100%.
My heart goes out to you Cantabs... I would be a mess if it was my home town.

Don't recycle the public utterings of a highly qualified high school woodwork teacher -now promoted out of his comfort zone....
Newer buildings killed people too....if anything more than the old.
And yes, i know it's not a fair comparison - which just shows how fatuous Brownlees comment was..
Went to see Falsgrave St boys today....no access to the building with bike bits in as the slab it's on has sunk & they can't open the doors...gone down about 6 inches.
Looking like they'll pull part of the roof off and crane the stock out.
Bugger, the're pretty much the only wrecker left in ChCh now.
Another nice shake this evening!
I saw on the news that the Heathcote water reservoir that normally holds 30,000,000 (yes thirty million) litres of water is dry. The bottom is cracked.
30,000,000 litres of water disapeared down into the hill, apparently through 'natural' fissures.
Now if I was anywhere near that side of the hill I'd be a bit worried ........... land slide.
That's Huntsbury. We lived there for years - below Dennis White. When a water main burst above our place we were knee deep in Loess clay - when that shit gets wet it just turns to porridge and runs.
Yes, the thought of the bottom layer of the Clay against the bedrock turning liquid would make me get off the hill pronto.
amazing. Thought I knew the city pretty well, but I cant even tell what streets they're in. let alone what buildings they were (unless theyve got signs on).
One of my clients is a car dealer, and he has been doing well. I might have to get him to get me a car depending what they do with ours. Note to self: ring them

We had a Kiwibiker down here from Wellington for dinner last night. He'd probably be embarrassed to be identified, but he's down here away from friends and family identifying the dead from the quake. He told ne he has seen things that will be with him for the rest of his life.
Sure, it's his job, but what a legend! There are so many awesome men and women working down here doing incredibly tough jobs.
Don't blame me, I voted Green.
Here's a 1996 documentary forecasting what the results of a quake near Chch would be - the got it pretty well right too!
The views expressed above may not match yours - But that's the reason my Dad went to war - wasn't it?
Life's journey is not to arrive at the grave safely in a well preserved body, .... but rather to skid in sideways, totally worn out,... shouting "man, what a ride"!!!
