    Boycott Mobil and BP

Got e-mailed this today and , yes, I am aware that last time round it was BP only but this would actually work if it could be co-ordinated. Thoughts and comments?

Subject: Petrol prices - please read to the end...

Please see what you think and pass it on if you agree with it.

We are hitting $2.15 a litre in some areas now and soon we will be faced with paying $2.50 per litre. So Philip Hollsworth offered this good idea:

This makes MUCH MORE SENSE than the 'don't buy petrol on a certain day campaign' that was going around last April or May! The oil companies just laughed at that because they knew we wouldn't continue to hurt ourselves by refusing to buy petrol. It was more of an inconvenience to us than it was a problem for them. BUT, whoever thought of this idea, has come up with a plan that can really work.

Please read it and join in!

Now that the oil companies and the OPEC nations have conditioned us to think that the cost of a litre is CHEAP, we need to take aggressive action to teach them that BUYERS - not sellers control the market place. With the price of petrol going up more each day, we consumers need to take action. The only way we are going to see the price of petrol come down is if we hit someone in the pocket by not purchasing their petrol! And we can do that WITHOUT hurting ourselves. Here's the idea:

For the rest of this year DON'T purchase ANY petrol from the two biggest oil companies (which now are one) i.e.Mobil and BP.

If they are not selling any petrol, they will be inclined to reduce their prices. If they reduce their prices, the other companies will have to follow suit. But to have an impact we need to reach literally millions of Mobil and BP petrol buyers. It's really simple to do!!

Now, don't wimp out on me at this point... keep reading and I'll explain how simple it is to reach millions of people!!

I am sending this note to a lot of people. If all of you send it to at least ten more (30 x 10 = 300)....and those 300 send it to at least ten more (300 x 10 = 3,000) ... and so on. By the time the message reaches the sixth generation of people, we will have reached over THREE MILLION consumers! If those three million get excited and pass this on to ten friends each, then 30 million people will have been contacted! If it goes one level further, you guessed it.....

    THREE HUNDRED MILLION PEOPLE!!!

Again, all YOU have to do is send this to 10 people. That's all (and not buy at Mobil/BP). How long would all that take? If each of us sends this email out to ten more people within one day of receipt, all 300 MILLION people could conceivably be contacted within the next 8 days!!! Acting together we can make a difference. If this makes sense to you, please pass this message on.

PLEASE HOLD OUT UNTIL THEY LOWER THEIR PRICES It's easy to make this happen. Just forward this email, and buy your petrol at either Shell, Gull, Caltex, etc. i.e. Boycott BP and Mobil.

Ha ha! I did think that too esp as this is the last line which I left out of the copying!

I KNOW THAT I WILL BUY FROM SHELL FROM NOW ON AS THE OUTLETS ARE NZ OWNED

Ultimately it wouldn't matter who got boycotted to achieve the end result, although there is obviously a downside and that is the owners of the Mobil and BP outlets missing out on income.

Here we have Mobil (which we dont use cos they is idiots) Shell which is old forecourt style service (which we use) and Gull at Snells beach which has cheaper prices, I use it when out there but wouldn't make a special trip just to save 40c.

Have you considered that a large proportion of fuel stations are privately owned, and in such cases any boycott will have little effect on the fuel companies?

These independent outlets have no control over the price of fuel. Their margins are pitifully small. But hey, if it gives you any satisfaction, be the final nail in their coffins - and the jobs they provide.

The only petrol station I have ever seen get pulled down for lack of use was the BP in Rotorua, but then again, the owners skipped town with 10 million dollars.

Getting the Gummint to cut the tax on fuel would make a much bigger difference.

Better Idea - Don't buy any petrol. Now that would show them!

I understand what you are saying, but, if they are'nt turning over the fuel, then they don't get more in, which in turn does start to effect the companies, that's why it says for a year.

Personally I find Mobil and Gull's fuel makes the bike run funny, maybe it's in my head, probably is. Either way the most convenient petrol station for me is a Shell anyway.

Yes I am aware of that but the idea was that ALL BP and Mobil stations would be boycotted, thereby having a massive affect on the fuel companies.
Last time this was tried the net result was bugger all so I'm picking that same thing again TBH.

So the independent operators are just collateral casualties, eh? Shut enough of 'em down, the big oil companies might notice eventually...

I usually buy from a local caltex or shell, does this mean I've already started doing the boycott????

The T/A has also missed that G.A.S stations are supplied by BP......
should these independant operators be disadvantaged as well?

Pack n Save fuel is supplied by BP also, should we not shop there too?

New world discount vouchers are for use @ BP , I'm guessing we should stop buying groceries because of the tie up between them then

The last "boycott" had no effect on anyone other than those who inconvenienced themselves trying to boycott a particular brand of petrol.

I'm afraid I'm not going to go without my daily flat white from BP Connect (made by the traditional Hindu barista's) for the cause.

BP Oil N.Z own and operate all Connect sites, BP2GO are privately owned and operated. Mobil (Pegasus Stations Ltd) own & operate the majority of Mobil sites and I'd have no issue with not giving those useless pricks any of my money.
