    Club 22

A new bar has sprung up in Christchurch as a result of the earthquake on the 22nd of Feb. This club has a cover charge, $5 for white people, $22 for coloured people. They say that if coloured people want to hang out in a bar of 100 white people that's the price they have to pay.

Nope, sorry got that wrong, that would be illegal and morally wrong.

Nope, sorry, got that wrong too. That would be surely illegal and definitely morally wrong.

    One more try.

No way, surely not. But yes in today's paper in Christchurch this is what is happening. Had it been colour based, or anti-female do you think the Press would be holding it up as high as they did this morning? I think not.

Look I hate PC crap as much as the next person (assuming they are also anti-pc) but if I have to live in a world where tolerance is legally required for everyone, regardless of skin colour, age, religion, and gender, then how is it that a business like this be allowed to operate in such a manner?

    Thoughts please?

Because it's acceptable for women to be drunk whores these days, and as such we now have to provide places where they can drunk whores safely.

Actually, it's pretty good value for money when you consider that a regular brothel charges.

    You're joking? Or they are?
Do you realise how many holes there could be if people would just take the time to take the dirt out of them?

A new nightclub has opened in Christchurch ... in Papanui.

The Papanui Tavern at 22 Harewood Rd has been transformed in just a few weeks into a three-zone nightclub – Club 22 – by 20-year-old Liv Boot.

"About a week after the February earthquake, nothing was open. There was nothing to do and nowhere to go and I was just sitting around at home," Boot said.

"I wanted to make somewhere for people to go.

"If you're under 30, there's not a lot to do here any more and young people are leaving.

"All of Christchurch is in Club 22. We all went through the same thing.

"It's named both after the date of the earthquake and its address."

Backed by a team of 30 friends and family, the venue was overhauled, with state-of-the-art lighting systems and sound equipment installed.

"It was an old tavern and it needed a lot of love, but it was an empty lot and it had no earthquake damage," she said.

Determined to offer a female-friendly venue, admission is $5 for women and $22 for men. And you will not find a TV blaring sports in Club 22.

"I know it's steep for men but the reason behind that is simple. I want it to be a place where women can go, have a drink and dance and feel safe that drunks aren't going to be fighting all around them. We have bouncers, too.

"If men want to come into a club filled with 100 girls, well, that's just the price they have to pay."

Someone in Christchurch should lodge a complaint with the local liquor licensing authority.

I doubt very much whether this is legal, also what makes her think Christchurch womens company is worth that sort of premium

One complaint to the Commission for Human Rights (or whatever it is), and that charge regime will be gooooone.

Judging by the comments in the link it seems I'm not alone in my thoughts.

She has already planned to back off from that, it's just the best way to get her bars name out there. Free advertising if you will.

She is just another hoe exploiting the people of Christchurch, no biggy...

Where did you read or hear this bro? Regardless, the damage is done and I will never spend a cent in her establishment. I understand fully that there is no such thing as bad publicity, but I think this might just be the exception. Anyway, Papanui? Merivale is just down the road.

    It won't work.

I spent many years working as a bouncer and I have seen excellent and popular clubs die almost overnight when they introduce a door charge (unless there is something special on) because we are accostomed not to pay.

If she wants to make it a chick friendly place, then she needs the right bouncers because they have probably the biggest influence over a bar's feel and atmosphere. The clubs I worked at (Home, Eye Spy, Concrete Club and sometimes Bass) all had a reputation for being a safe place for women and having a really relaxed and happy atmosphere because us bouncers were really picky about who we let in and who we kicked out. Stuff like no sports clothes or anything scruffy were official, but we had a few unwritten rules like some hats, no groups of young guys on the piss, no dodgy old sleazebags (like me), no sports teams - I even refused entry to a few All Blacks one night. We'd learnt that they were OK, but other people acted like dicks around them.

One of us was always walking around the club watching the patrons and if we saw a guy hassling a woman we'd ask her if she was OK and if she said he was annoying her he got one warning before being asked to leave. Really pissed people, aggro people or people acting like dickheads were out in seconds.

She also doesn't seem to realise that women don't go to clubs to drink and hang out with other women, they go to meet guys, so a club with 20 guys and 100 women will end up being a club with 20 guys and no women. Which is probably a good thing because most of the really obnoxious drunks were women and almost every completely fucked up unit I have ever had to deal with was a woman.
Don't blame me, I voted Green.

Didn't read it anywhere, I just believe nobody with 30 people helping her is thick enough that she isn't aware or been made aware of the furore her cover charge pricing strategy will cause.

She knows she's advertised it as pussy for all.
She knows the split pricing will generate advertising and talk about the bar.
She knows when she graciously backs down men will come for pussy.
She knows that the current plan won't work, because drunk pussy wants dick.

It's just an advertising have IMO.

    /edit: And what Shrub said
/edit2: And I must also add that I admire her audacity and strategy, assuming she has a media savvy consultant guiding her, she basically can't help but rake it in
/edit3: And what's the deal with paying a cover charge in any case... this place probably sells a alcopop for $15 each in any case? I assume it's to limit numbers given the amount of bars left?

Yes that thought did occur to me too. Thing is, there is better pussy in better bars in better parts of town that don't charge to get in. Maybe she's just aiming low...
