    Cellphone info?

I'm a little vague on how the prepaid cellphones work.

I have an old Nokia which I am using for prepaid. Costs a fortune in cards at the moment.
Recently my work upgraded the work Nokia and now I have in my possesion an ex-work Nokia 6234 which is still in good nick and wasn't that bad a phone.

Can I easily make that into a Telecom XT or Vodafone prepaid phone by buying a simcard?
I want to get a TXT 5000 plan if I can.

    Any help is appreciated.

What network was it on before? Do you know?
If it was on Telecoms old network then simple answer is no.
If it was on vodafone, then buying a vodafone or 2deg simcard will work sweet. XT probably wont, as many, particularly older, vodafones do not support XT.
If it was on XT it would probably work on any network.

    Hope this helps

Was on a Vodafone plan with work. So that means Vodafone prepay simcard in and I'm away?

It does indeed, it would previously have had a Vodafone on plan simcard in it when you had it with work. Should be very easy to get it all set up and running, pretty much plug and play really

If the phone is "unlocked" it will work with any network's SIM card. I think if you're looking at a new sim card, 2 degrees is worth looking at

Also, if you do decide to go for XT, then check this out first:

    http://www.telecom.co.nz/mobile/ourn...ecompatibility

Or just pop into a telecom store with the phone and they'll help you out as to wether its a goer or not.

+1 to that. I switched to 2 Degrees last year, could not believe how cheap it is, even texting the UK for $0.09 a go. Have now upgraded to a data plan on one of their free android phones. Great network, gets a bit moody out of town but day to day its a winner for me.

Well got me a 2 degrees sim card today with a $19 combo. Bloody good value for money compared to the "other 2"...

FYI: Thats not true, as it depends on the freq used by the phone...for example, my phone will not work on XT, they have a special model for that freq...even though its "unlocked"

Oh shit, yeah, you're right. Vodafone works on 900MHz, 1800MHZ, 2100MHz bands. 2 Degrees is 900MHz and 1800MHz and presumably 2100MHz where 3G is available.
    Telecom uses 850MHZ and 2100MHz.
I'd forgotten that a lot of old phones aren't quad band or whatever

Unfortunatly not just old phones, some latest top of the range can't be used on XT (I've a Samsung Galaxy S and its voda only )
