    Cog CB250RS = gearbox worries?

1st gear has shat itself , all other gears seem fine ,
The qustion is how much to fix and is it worth throwing dollars at ?? -- Bloody shame as the motor runs sweet and the bike is sraight and tidy for it's age and fully road legal ...
had a phone qoute of $700 just in labour to open it up and have a look (CHRIST) .
Opinions and thoughts are welcome ??? Cheers -

It's probably a bent selector. However you have to split the cases to find out what the problem is.

My question is do you want to learn how to fix it yourself? Get the manual and assemble a few tools. see http://www.dansmc.com/mc_repaircourse.htm

Otherwise get used to paying some body to fix your toys.

probably not worth it if your paying someone else to fix it. nice wee bike , had one as my first bike 20 odd years ago.

Guess your only using it to learn on and not long term bike?

Was this the blue on thats just been withdrawn????

Any sign's of metal in the oil????

These bike's you can work on easily.....even considering you have too slpit the motor, chances Are you may be able too fix the gear problem by just removing the bottom casing which is 10x10mm and 4x12mm in the bottom center if I remember correctly but have alook at these links they are close too you so would be cheap parts .........

wise decision. Looked at cb250 type bikes for my partner to learn on, all getting long in the tooth now. Ended up with a yamaha scorpio 225. same basic bike ... and well priced. our one was a 2007 with 15000km on the clock , cost $2100. chain and spockets , several oil changes, and sold it for $2300 6000km later. bullet proof similar motor to xt.
