The royal family generate their own income, they aren't supported by the taxpayer, in fact they generate income for the uk.

We were talking about it last night (SWMBO was watching for the frock) and we decided neither of us wanted their jobs: sure they never have to worry about the shit that we have to worry about, but the tradeoff is not worth it in my view.
