Anyone got any (empty ones I mean)?

Gave up brewing a few years ago and shortsightedly sold my stash of bottles. Now I've started brewing again and my old suppliers say they can't sell me the empties any more, tried several places same answer. Last resort is the local pub, will pop in there tonight, go in fairly regularly so hopefully he'll flick me a few crates.

So if anyone in Palmy/Ashhurst/Woodville area has a few crates sitting in their shed I am more than happy to give you at least the deposit back on them and you don't have to bother carting them off to the bottleshop!

Not sure about PN, but down here in Wellington you can buy them from the recycling shops at the tip, or at least that's where a mate gets his.

I use the brew shop in Palmy or if I can't get it there Brewcraft in Auck are good, Peter the guy is i dealt with. Dunedin Malthouse are good for the SI.

Do you brew from extract or all grain? I just do extract but am trying to put together the gear for a proper all grain setup, just bid on a 100L brew kettle on TM

Yeah used to do the same in Wanaka, tip in Woodville is a bit of a joke though. Could try the one in Palmy, although they're usually a bit reluctant to bend the rules...

Yeah I get a bit of an irritable bowel every time I go over the Pahiatua Track, nearly shit myself every time

Tried the brewing trick 20yrs ago,grabbed an old stuffed fridge,added light and thermostat to keep temp accurate(brother a sparky so good stuff),the beer actually wasn't to bad,the brews have improved since then on market for sure,we used to add lemonade(lame but when all db drunk and left with home brew)to jug,maybe 100mls to 600ml beer,mate and myself managed to drink 2doz cans then 18 bottles of home brew on a Sunday one Labour weekend,the lemonade took the slight yeasty smell and no hangover.

Giggest difference i've seen in home brew compared to when i was a kid is i'm not being told "drink this" to some nasty concotion with 5x the sugar content and piece of licuource in it in the attempt to up the alchohol rating to insane speed levels.

Yeah it's definitely a long way from that now, there's no reason you can't make beers as good as the decent stuff on the market with a bit of research and effort (and I'm not talking shit like Tui either). Having said that it cost me about $50+ to make 25L so it isn't as cheap as you'd imagine, although I do use decent ingredients, could probably do it for as little as $20 for some weak nasty tasting stuff!

Ha ha yeah there was a bit of a trend years ago for people subjecting party goers to mildly alcoholic treacle juice...

Do you brew from extract or go the whole hog and do all grain?

Yeah those swing top ones are good but a bit pricey, luckily I've found a source of swappa bottles at 5 bucks for 12.
