Don't follow too closely - looking at the tyre tracks behind me, she chucks the gravel around a fair bit...

Can't wait to get her on a decent gravel road - one with not quite so deep gravel or with some decent wheel tracks (yes, I'm a wuss).
220kg is quite a load alright. DR is 166 and feels like a feather. You could maybe trade for a lighter bike? There are plenty to choose from and all have plenty of offroad goodies to add on - tanks, bash plates, seats etc. Thats my plan once the finances recover a bit

You guys should do the Ngapaeruru loop behind the house here sometime and call in for a cuppa on your way past.

Very nearly got a Wee instead of a Vee but it would have cost me around 3-4 grand more to get it to where the Vee is now - and I love 1,000cc V-twins! Rangi-Kimbolton was spectacular yesterday! I'm happy just pottering around on gravel roads - I'm not keen to get too far offroad, the DL is not the bike for that.

Dunno about the bike hire bit but if you made that business mobile you might... just might have something there.
Edit: Actually, in these financial time maybe not so much...

Definitely. Haven't had a cuppa in the east for awhile - too long!!!

Yep, fair enough, wouldn't be keen getting stuck too far from civilisation, especially if she went down. I got the DR for its light weight and I expect it will lie down on the odd occasion but I also think she'll go pretty much anywhere.

I wondered if you hadn't compromised your comfort for getting to metal roads (on longer rides) by buying a more dirt orientated bike like the DR but there is the ability to do trail rides now too so that expands the possibilities a fair bit, you'd want to ditch those standard tyres though...

I'm sure the Connie wouldn't be too difficult, once you remove that huge chain guard with a claw hammer

To a certain extent, yes I have. But there are some good seat options out there and the DR certainly has the poke to get to places. And once its there, it has huge flexibility. I'll look at tyres when these ones are dead, they are Bridgestone Trailwings, not too bad really, no chicken strips anymore anyway and they are pretty capable of a good pace offroad.
