Now, these are single women dating a single man and these people are doing what men and women tend to do together. Turns out the man is a liar and the women find out. Instead of heaving a sigh of relief and getting on with their lives they commit absurd acts that may get them a criminal record, something that can be a serious impediment in any persons life, much more serious than having been in a relationship with a liar.

While I agree that their behaviour was beyond stupid, neither was 'single' - they were lied to and deceived into trusting this prick who they both thought was their monogamous partner

But what I cant understand - is how the two women reacted THAT poorly once discovered. These are women around ~40 years old. I mean - quoting the Herald
"They threatened to send pictures of his genitals to his workplace, bank and a cafe where his daughter worked, unless he paid them each $4000." is DUMB. Blackmailed the guy (and hes proly (=Probably for you old timers?) tied up in the justice/corrections/police outfit) - and did so via an auditable and recordable method!!! hahahah, stupid.

But threatening to send photos of him to his daughters workplace is a bit Off.

Pack mentality of guys is a very different thing to individual guys as Im sure you know. As a group us guys tend to be dim. Ive had girls cheat on me then trash my car after we went separate ways. Most people tend to be decent at heart, this is a farked up situation. Poor judgement on both parts has blown up spectacularly.
