I had the most dramatic NASS session last week. I was thinking it might be a wet session, so I bought some brake fluid, clear line, a ring spanner and and a bottle so I could demonstrate how to flush out brake fluid. I thought that would be a good wet weather session thing to do.
I packed all of this gear into my jacket. The jacket was a bit tight after this, so I could only half breath in. And wouldn't you know it, just as I zipped my jacket all the way up to the top the zipper handle snapped off. I tried to slide the zipper back down with my fingers, but it wouldn't move.
You know that moment when you suddenly realised your trapped, and you almost take a gasp, well I did that. Except I couldn't do the gasp. Anyway, told myself to calm down. I found some wire used for washing lines, some edge cutters, and made a new zipper handle, and with some relief, was able to undo and do up my jacket again. I also enjoyed taking a full breath,
I arrived at the service station as normal. Decided I needed some petrol. Looked briefly across at the petrol pumps, then back at the cap, unlocked the cap while at the same time grabbing the pump and started filling up.
Have you ever noticed that while the petrol is flowing into your tank it doesn't look the same as when it is just sitting their still? How the colour seems different? I noticed this and thought it was curious how the colour changes while it is flowing.
I then put the petrol pump back, and it went into the diesel slot on the pump. Fuck. I just realised that I had filled up my petrol tank with diesel.
Anyway, I wheeled my bike off the forecourt, and went inside. Explained what I had done, and asked if they had a syphon hose, pump, or anything I could use to get the fuel back out. Alas no. They did manage to find my a spare container I could transfer the fuel into.
Fortunately, I just remembered I had some clear line I had bought along to demonstrate changing brake fluid. So I got that out, and started slowing getting the bad fuel out. This got me about half way down the tank, and then the line was no longer long enough.
I checked my bike, and remembered that I had a foot pump under the seat. So I whipped the hose off that, added it to the clear line, and that got a lot more of the fuel out.
Fortunately for me, Attis came along, and went to the warehouse close buy and bought me a short run of garden hose. This quickly got the rest of the fuel out of the tank.
Then it was back to the pump to buy some actual petrol this time. And then we finally departed.
After our ride, a brief stop at the car park to make sure no one was waiting, we headed off to the pub. But that is another story ...
So what did you guys do last Wednesday?
As I paranoidly double check which pump I have picked up, I have asked myself I wonder if anybody has filled up with the wrong fuel and what do you do when you have. Thanks but commiserations on answering that question.
Hi, you guys all meeting tonight? Is there room for one more noob?![]()
