Smoking around kids will increase their likelihood of becoming smokers when they grow up.

I remember as a kid quite clearly men with the 'kauri' tobacco red and white tin box rolling and smoking. I was quite enthralled by it all.

I wonder if they'll ban all the harmful extra additives like polonium in cigarettes?

50 stupid laws from 50 states

In Idaho: A person may not be seen in public without a smile on their face

In Kentucky: A woman may not buy a hat without her husband's permission

In Montana: Seven or more Indians are considered a raiding or war party and it is legal to shoot them

Dont know about that one, My old man smoked like a train when we were kids, and all four of us became smokers. But i smoked around my kids when they were young, and none of mine smoke.
For a man is a slave to whatever has mastered him. Keep an open mind, just dont let your brains fall out.

Yeah but I work on fishing boats so I might as well be! I just laugh when someone throws a packet of ciggies over the side and two days later are crawling around on the deck begging to be able to smoke anything! When a smoker says "I'm giving up, this is my last packet" I just encourage them, cos 9 times out of 10 they get back on the wagon as soon as we hit port. I saw this fella on an ice trip once (2-3 months at sea in antartica) start collecting butts off the deck in week one. The crew paid out on him, called him a humu etc, but 2 months later he was selling the recycled butts back to them for $100 a packet!
Its hard to knock them but when you do....no looking back!
But yeah, kids, cars and ciggies dont mix.....or new born mothers!!!

    Hallelujah, the voice of reason.

Fuck the tobacco companies and the government profiting off killing people. If the powers that be had any balls they'd ban it outright. I was a smoker for 16 years and I've yet to meet anyone who genuinely enjoys smoking and wouldn't want to give up... but I have met plenty of deluded people who mistake chemical addiction for enjoyment.

EDIT: Oh and smoking in cars should be banned, period. NZ drivers are shit enough without having another bloody distraction or an accident Big Lebowski style. Yep been there done that several times flicking a butt out the window only for it to fly back and land in the crack between the seat and the door and start smouldering the carpet (all at 100km/h).

Meh, they can just bump up income tax, gst, fuel tax etc to re-coup. Im sure all the people so happy to tell smokers what they can and cant do will be happy to pay.

    The smokefree nz tax. COOL!!

I can still remember as a kid being cooped up my in grandparents little car, both of them smoking, windows right up...
Mum (back then, what with us being young nippers and all, so she was a "young daughter-in-law") felt she couldn't say anything but she was really pissed about it.

Thankfully it didn't happen too many times. (Probably because we didn't see them all that often).
I lahk to moove eet moove eet...

I bet the kids'll be allowed to smoke in the car though

Ban it... it shouldn't be allowed... although I have been guilty of hanging out of the passenger window having a puff whilst stuck in traffic, with the girls in the back .
    I didn't think!!! I experimented!!!

    Ban ciggies?
Ban alcohol too. Far more expensive to the nation, and dangerous to your health.
While you are at it, ban motorbikes too. Cars are safer - ask the mothafukn experts.
And ban people not being bar coded too - would make things heaps easier for the plod.

And tell them returned servicemen that you are doing this for their own benefit......while thanking them for safeguarding your freedom to remove freedoms from our future generations.

Alcohol and ciggies have no practical use - wouldn't worry me if they were not here.

Bikes and cars you can at least make use of.

nah, not till I read this post I guess.

Hate it when any group thinks about removing Individuals Free Choice, drives me nuts. But especially sad to hear BIKERS condoning it - remember once hearing that bikers were about freedom of choice - choosing to do things perhaps slightly unordinary - and encouraging joe bloggs to simply accept others for what they are. Live and Let Live, I guess.

Probably would have happened if Chairman Helen & Comrade Cullen had gotten another couple of terms under their belts.

I go months without a smoke with no cravings and just take it up again, I do enjoy it.
    I don't smoke much though.
It seems I do 8 week stints, it boggles all around me who smoke who cry and moan after a day without nicotine. I do rather enjoy it, but there is no doubt an addiction there.

Nothing reinforces the 'us vs them' mentality than a pack of non-smokers vigorously campaigning to ban it.
