Who will the poor and the downtrodden have to look after them?
And keep them locked into a benefit sponsored, drug and alcohol addicted low rent melodrama?
No jobs in the near future AND now no benefits? I cant see that happening personally.
Unless they force unban unemployed into the countryside where there is no jobs (like in the cities) but you crop vegetables in government owned communes, catch fish, skin possums, light manufacturing whatever. Which is reasonably viable and how things used to be before benefit lifestyles(and cheap overseas labour)
''The Sensible Sentencing Trust says the Government's proposed social welfare reforms will reduce crime and over time, inspire people to get back into work.
Trust spokesman Garth McVicar says the current welfare system allows would-be criminals to spend their days scoping out people's houses, instead of working.
“Many beneficiaries see their welfare payment as ‘pay-day’ and something they had earned and were fully entitled to as of right," says Mr McVicar.
“Allowing beneficiaries to stay home and simply wait for the next ‘pay-day’ is creating a cesspool environment that has caused most of the social failings facing New Zealand today.”
Mr McVicar told 3 News beneficiaries need to be made to work, otherwise they find other things to do with their time.''

The answer was simple ! "I'll prolly get bored with racing too, once i've nailed it !"

I’m no fan of Ms Bradford…. I find her manner repellent and very disturbing which is a shame as I suspect that there is also a grain of truth in what she is saying. Ie Its all very well to encourage people off the benefit and into work but where are the jobs?
Both sides agree that the social welfare system needs an overhaul. Like a lot of things its now a mishmash of old laws patched and over patched by newer ones. There is also no doubt that for a lot of people welfare has become a way of life. If we leave it much longer it will become a traditional lifestyle in some quarters and enshrined in a treaty.
The question is – in a world that is increasingly mobile and where all light manufacturing is done in places where governments keep labour costs very low, what the heck do we do about it.
The system would normally try to encourage people to aspire to be ‘upwardly mobile’ yet our middle classes are often filled with well qualified immigrants who tend to be highly motivated. Often this leaves people with very limited options in a crowded market.
Previously the state had the option of using larger state owned organisations such as the Ministry of Works or Railways to soak up some of the less skilled in ‘Public Works’ schemes but these are largely all done by contractors now. These contractors often import specialists or at least employ a highly mechanised labour force as it’s the cheapest way to do the job.
Sue Bradford has a point – the people who get hurt by these reforms tend to be the wrong ones. Yes, there are a lot of people who shamelessly exploit the welfare system and there are people who are just so plain dumb (usually there are low spectrum disorders at play as well) and idle that its all they know. Its often these folks who are the heaviest users of welfare and the hardest to remove so they get left. The people who get attacked are the ones that don’t want to be on welfare but have hit some kind of speed bump on life’s highway. Often there are some resources they can turn to (family etc) so they get turfed off to fend for themselves despite them being highly deserving and often significant contributors in the past.
If you are a single parent or have a child or relative with a disability you should be very worried.
