"So if you meet me, have some sympathy, have some courtesy, have some taste ..."
In a word ..... NO . the old ARA had "please let bus go first" on the back of their buses & other bus companies have also used it.
It is NOT a legal requirement.
It is only a courtesy to let the bus go first.
Considering the scheduals they have to keep combined with the traffic they have to contend with. The dickhead car drivers that can't see past the bonnet of their cars. Retards for passengers. Add to that the frustrations of driving a large bus through city streets,I usually do let them go first.
That & half the bus drivers are blind bastards anyway, it is safer to have them where you can see them.![]()
I've met the odd good bus driver (they thank you for letting them pull out ahead of you), but in general I agree with Jantar. Truckies are usually brilliant...
The only thing possibly worse than buses are taxis, pulling u-turns wherever they like, blocking traffic etc.

in my experience with similar incidents, contacting the employer and making a complaint goes a long way. most of them rather dislike their drivers giving the co. a bad image. last time i made a complaint like that about a cab driver doing a dangerous U turn nearly taking me and the wife out, they were great at getting back to us about the process, he had to go in on his day off and answer to the complaint etc etc.
If you really feel strongly about it, ringing the company CALMLY and discussing the matter might help to remind him to take more care if h wants to keep his job.
We were on a bus once heading into the city from Newmarket.
A car ''cut off'' the bus, the bus driver then embarked on a bus/car chase.
The chick right behind the driver slide off her seat at one point..
Bus driver caught up with the car eventually and then the screaming started..
All n' all we got a free side show for our money...![]()
absolutely agree. bus drivers normally cant drive for shit. have to agree with the god complex idea. they figure. screw it. anything smaller than a truck that hits me is going to get crushed.
I have actually been on a bus outside a mall and had the bus driver while still holding/putting away money. begin to pull out with out a single glance or indicating.
It created a simple rule. if its a bus and its bigger than you. stay the fuck away from it.
Us Aucklanders are good like that (free shows)
You do also need to see it from their side (a bit). They spend all day in Auckland traffic, with a huge vehicle. They are constantly cut off, and they can't stop on a dime. Aucklanders are also great at letting others in (yeah right).
Would be enough to make me go spare, even the 15k a year I do drives me a bit nuts. Still, no excuse for some of their behaviour.

Wondered why I hadn't seen it for a while.
I do remember a workmate of mine having a huge argument with a bus driver because the bus had pulled out with no indication & hit the side of the furniture truck he was driving. The bus driver pointed to that little blue sign & said it basically gave him right of way regardless.
Funny how the police & insurance company took a different view![]()
He genuinely might not have seen you, worth adding to the list of hazards in your brain that buses tend not to spend too much time parked on the side of the road before moving off. Just saying.
I love the smell of twin V16's in the morning..
