still waiting to see anyone from EQC for the first time. Have put in 2 claims now, but nothing.
Also claimed for driveway through my own insurance back in March. Have not heard since from them either. Time to get back on the blower, especially since more damage after June quake.

On the plus side, my Triumph finally went in today to replace dented tank & muffler from the February quake. Should be back Friday me hopes. Will wrap it in cotton wool now (it fell over in September, February & June quakes).
Shaken, not stirred in the shakey city!

Well I had my EQC assessment today. Very thorough and good to deal with they were too. No structural damage to the house but as we already knew, quite a bit of superficial damage to be fixed (some of it for the second time). Piles fine, ceiling space fine except for a bit of grouting required between tiles. The gentlemen I had have to finish their caseload by this weekend after which EQC will mull it over for a few weeks and then either send a cheque or ask if I want Mr Fletcher to fix it although I don't think the value will be sufficient to involve Mr Fletcher.

It is possible to opt out of the Fletchers repair management scenario - though from what I hear vey few assesors are telling people that...
My own advice fwiw is to opt out....hard earned experience.
The offer to be made today to owners in munted suburbs looks pretty controversial - plenty of resistance unless the valuations are updated from 2007 level.
But I'm sure there will be those who just take it with a smile and run...

Sadly it didn't help.....and if it had been a big one I'd have been stuck indoors too.

Does that mean they are expecting a lot of angry residents? If so I suspect they have mis-read the people.

Although for the average property values in Christchurch......2007 would probably represent fairly close to the peak in recent values......property values have been mostly flat to downhill since then.

Seems pretty fair to me......but I would be guessing that any outlier/inaccurate values would leave a few pretty cross.

I would agree with the opt out.....BUT I would compare it against quotes from reputable builders(if you don't DIY)...to ensure savings get pocketed..rather than plundered!

the people? Since when have they figured in anything?

I am getting a little grumpy with EQC. My house is pretty good beyond a few cracks and a garage that leans to one side (but still solid), but I lost a lot of contents. My lovely Loewe TV and Tannoy speakers hit the floor and are munted, as did my daughters SLR camera and computer and shitloads of glass, crockery etc. I have replaced the crockery etc (much of which broke again on the 13th) and the contents of fridge and chest freezer (including half a lamb, some wild venison and a couple of thar backstraps), but I don't have the readies to replace $10k worth of TV and speakers let alone my daughter's kit. That's what I had insurance for. If my house had been burned down, if al qaeda had flown a plane into it or I'd been burgled I'd have had a cheque in the mail within days.

Instead I'm watching a poxy old TV with crap reception and listening to music through my MP3 player and my daughter is using my expensive camera to do her school work instead of the one I gave her especially.

I have rung them a few times and been told nothing beyond that I was on the urgent list, and then last week I was told that the assessors are doing 4 - 5 claims a day and that all i can do is wait. They have the photos, the valuations, the proof of purchase etc - what more do they need? How the hell can it take up to 2 hours to process what is basically an insurance claim?
Don't blame me, I voted Green.

... insurance still covers for replacement value of the house so you wont just get the rates value. so its not so bad after all

You too huh, just carry on with the hurry up and wait I guess.

Just had a look at the MAP, looks like the council have got the river front land they've been wanting for ages and where I live just got smaller, I wonder if that will make it more 'exclusive' and therefore more desirable

Why are you dealing with EQC over that stuff? Isn't that contents? I thought you went to your insurer for that
