What's happened to the Winter Series?

Where are all the bike this year? Vic club seem to be doing there normal great job and great to have the internet coverage (not that many people seem to use it according to the stats when watching the live feed had 26 viewers allday) but the fields are pathetic. Take F1 for example qualifying was
    1st. Cole 1.10.9
    2nd. Frost 1.11.9
    3rd. Holmes 1.12.1
    4th. McCarroll 1.16.5
    5th. Carrol 1.16.8

    Six seconds between 1st & 5th!
Fastest postie would have placed 4th on the grid as their time was a 1.15.9 (track being dry but cold for both sessions) and were talking a 50 yr old overweight cheese eating dutchman here with dubious personal habits on a 22 yr old overweight stock (bar Ohlins shock) bike that admittidly looks in marginally better condition than its owner.

I can appreciate that last years run of shocking weather may have put some riders off this years winter series but so far its been pretty good, maybe i'm just being pessimistic and everyones saving their $'s for the summer racing...I hope so.

Yeah I think everyone is just sick of riding in the rain. The vic club have really stepped up and they ran a bloody good day yesterday.

Track temp for our first practice was 0.1 deg

Looking at the whole day his time wouldnt would have only got him 13th in F1, 8 seconds off the pace. (as expected) F1 had the first practice I think common sense prevailed

On race finishing times he would have finished 6th in r1, 9th in r2 & 6th in r3 and to be fair those times were with no competition in the posties races which had even bigger gaps r1 winning margin being 18 secs, r2 25 secs & r3 20 secs. I'm not just picking on f1 chop across the classes things are dire.

I think Shane that its also got a little bit to do with the economic situation. Riders appear on Friday to ride around but dont turn up on the Saturday because its a lot of money for not so much racing / so few laps, seen that more than a wee bit.

Just maybe also some competitors are looking more towards the Tri Series?

For testing with the National level riders ( I was helping Chop and Nick ) you can only do so much as the track temp is so low it doesnt ''load'' the bikes. As the track temperature falls tyre temperature falls parabolically. I have been constantly monitoring track and tyre temps and are very clearly seeing this correlation.

Ill leave the thinking to you barristers and your theatrical courtroom antics representing the guilty as sin!

For me at the moment that is the case....also its nice to have a stressless day just having fun on the bike.
    $100 for 5-6 20 min sessions on Fri = near 100 laps
    $140odd for raceday, 3 races + qual = 22 laps

Yeah I'm soft now, I haven't got wets or spares so no pressure days suit me fine just now............

Was chatting with Spud about the 4 lap qual sessions and for guys to turn up after a month or 2 off the bike and have to re settle into pace on a cold track in 4 laps just ain't gonna give ya fast qualifying times if the Fri test day wasn't done prior.
Thats my take on things at the mo......

I still reckon that Shayne should do the decent thing, and make himself available for dwarf throwing competitions....
