New lid advice

hey, I need a new lid to protect what small amount of brains remain undamaged in my noggin.

Im not a wealthy bloke at the momment, so I need a helmet thats pricier than than a night with paris hilton, but less than a night with heidi Klum.
I do some occaisional commuting, lots of long distance (2-10hours rides) and the odd race/trackday. so its gotta be comfy for the long hall, have better protection than half a coconut tied on with string, and not weigh as much as rosie Odonell (can you imagine carrying THAT weight on your neck while she's sitting on your face?)

So yep, Im currently looking at the HJC FG15, seems to be decent, though the last HJC I had didnt have a great deal of padding across the forehead, and after an hour or two of riding, would rub against my neanderthall skull and start to cause a wee headache - that said, it was the cheapest helmet i could find at the time.

SO wondered if anyone had thoughts on this helmet? need a new lid but cant spend too much, cos the fork toungued, two headed snake in the kitchen doesnt know Im spending moolah.
(dont be too concerned about her, the forked tounge has its benefits.)

any advice appreciated

p.s. retail on them seems to float between $288, and $499 on Tardme as of today,WTF?

Hi there, i have just put a HJC fg 15 on layby at my local shop. They ticked all the boxes for me, composite shell, 4 star sharp, good fit. mine was $390 in black,
i to looked at the $290 - $500 price spread on TM, and asked a friend at a bike shop, they said the $290 ones from that shop down south, had more then likley been a couple of years old already, as this model helmet was released in 2009, so they MAY be from as far back as then. Im not saying that is the case, just offering a possible explanation for the price difference. They then told me that you should replace a helmet every 5 years?
I got mine local, cause they got in quite a few different helmets for me to try, so felt i should make my purchase from them, plus i knew its fresh from the wholesaler

Just stamp HJC on your forehead Timmerphee,
Your skull is thick enough to absorb at least one impact, not that it matters, the speed you go, a Helmet probably wont do you much good...



I have had two cheap as chips helmets and they were crap, fit well but were horrible, loud as hell, one whistled, and was solid had zero pad, the other wasnt so bad.. whistled like a bird, but I only had it for 2 months.. thats when I hit a bird.
I had an oxford cheapy for $80 brand new and it was good, but not great, rode with it to Magpie madness and ate more bugs than if I had an open face helmet, it had no chin guard and I couldnt seem to find one to fit, was also very solid on the forehead, got my HJC now, cant remember the bike of it, but its the one up from Calebs old one (the yellow one) its pretty good but, I have different needs to you, I still find it a cunt as it fogs up like a prick, but you wont have the same issues as me, as you dont have to ride that shitty bay road in rain hail and snow at 7am Haha.
You said Rick might be able to cut you a deal right? Go try one on, and have a feel, its not gonna hurt.

cheers for the info. yeah you are supposed to replace them as UV light etc can eventually weaken the shells over time, but if its sat on a shelf, or in its box, for two years, then Im sure it would be fine, as long as its brand new, I dont mind buying last yearsmodel if its a good helmet and it saves me coin

At the shop, the fg 15 with graphics was 490, gloss black is 390. i would have got gloss black if they the same price anyway, but a hundy cheaper is sweet with me

So technically if I were retarded, (which im not, just mentally unstable. And I look funny.) I could ride to work without a helmet on, so long as I stayed bellow 30km/h ..
I always assumed, which I guess is pretty safe, that you must always be wearing an appropriate helmet on a motorbike scooter or what have you no matter the speed

I bought a grex helmet for my partner for everyday use (made by nolan)
I use a Nolan myself and just bought a new lid recently,, tried Shoie, an aroia, ended up with an LS2..... again I believe the shell is was used for an expensive brand previously... good fit, excellent around the chin and ears.... and a reasonable price, with good SHARP rating.... ( i have the flip front, so I would presume the normal lid is quieter and similar in fit.
