New entry certified fee for scooters as of 1 July!

Government is imposing a new Entry Certified fee to all new scooters imported to the country as of the 1st July! I have checked with VTNZ and it seems the cost will be about $149!!! Ouch! Enjoy the new taxing times.

Looks like NO check ... just another tax on imports .... that will be passed on to the buyers ...

That sounds like the cost of a compliance/Revinning inspection......

Talking too the staff at VTNZ in Wanganui,I was told to revin/comply a bike,
its $149 for the inspection and then $279 for the new plates and 6mths rego plus brake declaration/inspection on top which could be upto $150 depending on where it was done....

I look forward too the day when all scooters/mopeds/bicycles require a wof and riders a licence

But as FJ said its more likey too be more tax rather than and inspection, which would be a shame

Hey. Just did it and all they want is a Pre InSpection sheet which is basically a WOF Check. eg: Indicators work and so forth, You shouldn't have a problem if it was reg'd before

^^ Do you mind me asking if you could go into a bit more detail of the process?

Sorry its just that Im worried I might get a bit of a hard time thats all. One being the dio as you know is quite a powerful 2 stroke scooter which can go pass 50cc easily and two, when I re-powdercoated the frame Im pretty sure that little tag with a VIN?? got taken off.

So when you first bring it in, do they write down the VIN/chassic of the bike and engine code etc.?

Do they just turn the bike on and check for the headlights, brake lights, indicators, horns etc.? I assume then theres mirrors and physical condition of the bike?

Do they jump on the bike and test ride it at all?

    Thanks!

    Kyle

I'm sure NO VIN tag means no reg'ing of scooter. Saying that, check with VTNZ.

ONLY new imported scooters need to be checked over and yours isn't

Sweet baby cheesus. you are all mis-informed.

    Prices.
Scooter up to 49cc $100 for the inspection, then $131.20 for six months rego and new plate. I'm not going to bother remembering the 12 month price, because nobody picks it.
Scooter over 50cc/ any motorcycle $149 for the inspection and then rego is starting from around $275 (not sure on exact figures right now)

    What you need.
    Pre-registered/lapsed etc
    Proof of ownership
    Proof of previous registration
For scooters, a statement of conformity, to say it complies with our various laws and standards.

    For new,
    Statement of conformity
    Predelivery inspection
    Proof of ownership

    For a motorcycle

If first rego is after 91, a brake declaration. this includes if it was registered in whatever country you bought it from, it is a new rego here.
If it was bought as a salvage, it requires a repair cert. There is no way around this. If the insurance company wrote it off, it will be flagged.
If you weren't the owner at time of de-reg, get a statutory dec to say you do own it, and get any paperwork you can from the guy you buy it off.

In short, brake declaration in 90% of cases, proof of ownership, proof of previous registration and the bike being in wof condition.

In a nutshell, thats pretty much it. It isn't an overly hard process.

Oh, and all paper work Must Be Original. No photocopies, or certified copies.
