So on roads that are only just wide enough for two lanes the straight through traffic ends up crossing the centreline to get around the stationary left turners, then swing back to the left so they don't head on with the right turners and the straight through traffic heading the opposite way get pissed off at wankers crossing the centre line.
You must have some real bad drivers up there in the Tron, I've never had too much trouble every-so-often you get the morons, most likely the same sort that will wait for EVERYONE on the round-a-bout to be gone before they'll enter, but in general it works, and you don't need to see who's coming behind you as you can turn as the straight through car passes yours.

Yup. We have some good'uns. What if there's not enough room for the straight through car to get around the left turning car?

We're fucked. I'd wager the countries that have this have dual lanes so won't have the traffic backup we'll get. or the queue tries to squeeze between the car being held up turning right and smack a few wing mirrors off, or mow down the pedestrian about to cross.

There'll be carnage before any "improvement" is seen. Fuckin' arse.

very, very, very rarely an issue. But that problems just compounded with this new/old rule especially if it's a busy road

They seem to manage in every other country in the world where the rule is what we're changing to. Maybe we'll end up needing more traffic lights or science-forbid more roundabouts

this 'new rule' tends not to hold up traffic as they wait to turn right. because there are chevrons in the middle of the road where the car (s) waiting to turn sit and wait..........traffic flows each way until there is a gap though which they can make the right turn. ........very easy and simple

Having driven in the UK and France, I'd have to say that I'm pleased to see this change come about. It is so much easier to drive in both of those countries and the utter lack of nasty aggro is such a change from driving in NZ that it is a phenomenal awakening for a Kiwi driver to experience it.

    However.

The majority of NZ drivers don't adhere to the current rule.

They'll monumentally fuck up the change over.

Motorcyclists, cyclists and pedestrians will dies as a result.

But that;s cool, because it's OK to kill, maim, injure and generally fuck up people's lives if you're a road user because it's an "accident" and everyone makes "mistakes".

If you ever wonder why I don't like people, it's generally because they think it's OK to kill others if it can be labelled an accident, or an external factor like drunkeness or a hyper-emotional state can be blamed. If you're fucked in the head, stay off the road.
If a man is alone in the woods and there isn't a woke Hollywood around to call him racist, is he still white?

Just because the roads down Wellington way are a bit better managed by the council etc doesn't mean there isn't a problem in the rest of the country.

It can get very dangerous on roads that were never designed to be arterial routes but because of changes elsewhere they now carry much higher traffic loads.

No such chevrons in your average towns street except maybe the main drag - and then not at every cross-roads.

And with the new rule, you can plan your route to avoid the bulk of right turns. As it is now, you can get held up either way.

Reckon the better traffic flow could go either way, but surely less accidents are likely with the newer approach. (after the concept properly filters through the masses)

    Poop.

The older I get (46) the harder it is to adapt to this shit! Hey - 30 years of bad habits now!

What pisses me off is the wankers who still get that darn round-a-bout signalling wrong. Stupid rule IMO as prior to it you gave some respect to all 'about' users, now there is a assumption they are indicating correctly!

I've spent the last couple years driving round NZ can't say I've really had a problem anywhere.

OBVIOUSLY ... What this country needs .... is MORE traffic lights ....

    Less thinking required ...
