Muppet can't even get the fairing on Daytona 675

So, took the fairing off my 2010 675 and then after giving it a nice rub down I put it back together. Except it didnt' go back together. The left cowl (as you look at the bike from the front - brake lever side) refuses to sit flush with the top fairing. Anyone come across this random problem before?

It's pretty embarrassing that I can't even get the fairing on after several attempts. So for that reason I'd prefer any solutions to be as complex as possible. Some rare problem that crops up from time to time and makes it totally understandable that I couldn't get 'em on would be much appreciated.

I've never worked with fairings before but have experience in similar fields. Try loosening up all of the fairing screws (without completely unscrewing them) for both panels and then get the fairings sitting right before you torque them up, you should hopefully get a bit more movement so that you can get them into position more easily.

Yeah, tried that and no joy. At the moment I'd happily go back to my ol' CBR with its four bolts on each side...total.

Insert the front of the panel, where the two screws are, at an angle to the bike. Like 30 or 40 dgrees. Make sure the 'fingers' interlock, then rotate the whole panel onto the side of the bike, keeping a little forward pressure to keep the 'fingers' in. I've found that works on mine. Obviously do the above very carefully and don't force anything. If it needs force, something's not lined up correctly.

Yeah looking at the scuff marks the top screw has left on the front fairing panel, I'd say it ain't where it should be. Maybe being forced forward by said 'fingers'.

definitely looks like you need to hook the top together first, then bring it down and line it up.

I had this same problem on my '08. Pissed me right off since I literally tried everything. Couldn't work out what the hell was going on. I never found out what the problem was. It was like something was holding it back because even realigning bolts and shit never worked. I think something just got twisted somewhere.

Don't have the problem on the '10 and the fairings have been completely off once and partially off 3 times.

So to sum up, yes I've seen the problem but I'm a fat load of good to ya for the solution

Have you got the correct fairing bolt in? It looks like it should have a 'sleeve' to locate the fairing in the correct position, and done up flush should secure itself in the centre of the fairing hole, therefore not leaving any of the scuff marks visible.

Just leave it, the expansion joint in my plastic spouting looks the same.
When summer comes it will close up nice'n'tight, if its tight now it could pucker out or crack.

What position are you holding your tongue in when doing this?

I was always impressed with how well my 675 Daytona parts, including those panels fit back together. With those side panels to front panel it's a case of you having to align the 'fingers' and from memory they dovetail, one over and the other under sort of arrangement. Get it right once and you will wonder how you ever had a problem reassembling it.

Yep, some of them are like that, others have the sleeve or collar as part of the bolt.

Yeah. Be nice if they could all use the same idea eh! Then if you're friendly Triumph Dealer didn't have one, you could scoot off to you friendly Yamaha/Honda/Suzuki dealer and fetch one! But no...that'd never happen.
