Yes prepay sucks for bikes . I have no problem with stations that know me. Sometimes in stations that dont know me I will take my helmet off and wait a wee bit then all good. What I really hate is when they dont clean up slippery surfaces around petrol pumps. Really stuffs ya grip up on the road.

That's a pretty standard healthy and safety issue, and most service stations have a poster up saying not to sit on the bike while filling. I assume it is because of the increased danger of the rider being able to escape in the event of a fire.

There are plenty of service stations in my area. I'll move onto the next one.

pre-pay pees me off. Totally crazy in New Plymouth.....the Caltex is prepay...less than 50 metres away the Mobil isn't. The New World has pay at the pump and in the next street the Shell isn't prepay, nor is the BP.

So if you don't like prepay and you come to NP, don't use the Caltex.

If a gas station needs to go prepay...why doesn't it just get pay at the pump?? Oh I forgot, if you pay at the pump they can't get any secondary sales Maybe that's the plan, you prepay too much and then have to buy chocolate and pies rather than being refunded.

Yeah and same where I am, but on the rare occassion this happens this is my reaction. As I said, the more people accept that crap - the shittier the service will become (more prepay stations)...and fuck that.

That would be illegal as the company is vicariously responsible for the actions of employees

Other ways of avoiding prepay are tp plan ahead get fuel early or take a jerry can home for topping up after hours. Take the line of least resisitance & do what you want to do anyway.

In the carless day fiasco era I used to carry 20 litres in a backpack to spend the weekend in & around Lyttleton. Being a mobile incendiary bomb didn't phase me.

You may have noticed that every time you ride with me, and we pull in to a pre-pay station... that they always unlock the pumps before we go to the counter???

I ride to the next town to buy fuel from humans after I pump it into my bike. Thought I was being too demanding. Guess I'm officially an old codger now. Good thread. Fuck that pre-pay bullshit. Innocent until chased down proper.

Never used Caltex, and this gives me all the more reason not to. Usually I just wait until theres one of the 20c off vouchers from New World. Fill up the car and the Jerry at the same time. And there we are for another week or 2.

The local Caltex's, Mobil & Shell usually have people out on the forcourt to assist those that want help, can't say I've heard of any drive offs from any of them. In non peak times they do tend to lock the pumps until the attendant sees you.

some Gull stations have pay @ pump, they are marked as the 'express' pump & are often about 5 cents per litre cheaper than the other pumps on site.

I pull up to the pump, stick the nozzle in the vehicle (always buy bike gas locally so no issues) and stare at the cashier (was going to say attendant but then realised that was wrong nowadays), when they look up (for the console is beeping at them) and see me, they either authorise the pump and I get my gas or they dont authorise the pump and I just remove the nozzle from the tank and lay it on the ground (will keep beeping until the E-stop the pump or hang it up). They cant trust me to get my gas, I cant trust them.
