Just seems odd as humans we like to try and move forwards and progress things.

If we followed that life style we'd still be living in caves till the age of 25 scared of our own shadow.

I think it's partly about questioning the nature of progress itself.

The principles apply anywhere really, it's just not as easy to live off the concrete jungle freely as it would be from the land.

The article mentions trading with society, it is not leeching.

Someone living outside of society is less of a drain on it than someone inside it.

They would still need to pay if they were using society's doctors?

There's also no reason why doctors couldn't be a part of these communities.

OK - till they get sick and present at a taxpayer funded medical facility.

    But they're still taxpayers?

The article says the idea is only to make as much money as you need and to separate that from your loves/passions. There is nothing about avoiding tax.

That's not living 'outside' of society. That's towing the man's line, man.
So not only do they need a bath - they're hypocrites!

Dropping out of society altogether is largely a teenage rebellion thing and is not what this is about. I think they use the term "dropping out" to refer to getting out of the contribution to consumerism and the associated decay of society - something that taxes are separate from (if used correctly).

I got the feeling that it's more about contributing to society. The revolution will not be televised and all that.

This is like picking on the Amish.
Even if they did find out - what are they going to do about it.

I think we're at crossed purposes here.

As stated early on - No issues with 'The Good Life' - it was a brit sitcom about alternate lifestyles - giving up the traditional 9 to 5 way of life for one of self-sufficiency and growing your own whatevers. To a certain extent that's what I do now as a freelancer anyway.

That's different to scavenging in rubbish bins and off the rest of 'the system'.

The difference between being 'just' and just a parasite.

    Thats funny.

The biggest knobs and cunts are those screwing the planet for future generations. YOUR KIDS AND MINE!!!

The more people that drop out, the more pussy for me and you. Really. Its a no brainer.

I have been a hippy shagging, beach hut living, stoner for an earlier part of my life. Never crook for 20 years, but needed stitches quite a few times, plus 5 days in an eye ward...

No rent, power or phone for years, lived off my money from outback mining. Then bought a house and lived off my flatmates rent money....

Less is more, no unwanted pregnancies and had the time of my life. Read a lot of books, warmed to live song and music, swam and soaped in streams for a clean.

Bought a Kombi or 5, had lots of van sex, relaxed and dropped out. 2 years in Bali, 2 years on the road in Oz. Absolute time of my life.

However it gets to be a bore, just like anything.

Nearly all the hippies I knew, eventually got a haircut, a job, and/or hepatitis.

Backpackers do it for a couple of years, I did it for 15years...

Jaz, from the website 'How to drop out' the author Ran Prieur looks like an aspergian, you may want to check on that too Jaz, checking profiles and comments here, its fairly likely by my reckoning
