I'd like to learn this trick, the Cyclespot peoples are opening up a new BMW/KTM showroom just down the road from cyclespot and I asked (hinting that I'd want a test ride) if there'd be an RC8 there. They mentioned yes, for sale, but nothing about letting me take it for a spin... I didn't have the heart to ask about the S1000RR after that

Ironically, the older you are, the more pliant the sales peeps are to take a bike out - whenever I rocked up to sales yard, they either thought I was a Maori and ignored me or somehow thought I was an asian and therefore should be pursued for a sale!

Coming into biking at my elderly age has been a relatively hassle free and immensely rewarding obsession!

I guess I knew I would be facing restrictions in a relationship so I did as much bike buying and riding as I did!

Somewhere along the line, I screwed up and somehow made a frenemy with Gremlin

Maybe you have to play hard to get? I was offered a spin on a race RC8 (at a trackday) if I wanted... turned it down... that's the last drug I need to be taking. Could probably take an S1000RR if I asked... but I don't want to.

mwah Do remember though, with the expensive bikes, it's also about actually having a demo. The RC8 is real expensive for a KTM, and consequently, not every dealer can afford to have one sitting around, to be taken for a spin. Likewise, I don't know how many demos of the K1600GT are around, or where they are. At 45k ish, it's a whack of money for dealers.

Try being really interested and asking the difficult questions, rather than "giz a go mista". When I was questioning BMW sales, they brought in their head of workshop, who was also stumped on a question or two. When asked why I didn't ask easy questions, I simply answered, "because I already know all the answers"

I'll compile a list of questions to ask then; Starting with "can it do a wheelie?" and moving on to more pertinent issues such as "How fast can it go?"

Don't even get me started on some shop assistants attitude towards young chicks... i may have bought my bike from the shop, since it was the only one that had my bike, but if somewhere else had i would have walked out when they only talked to my dad and ignored me... right up until my dad said "well its her bike, so she's the one that has to decide and be happy". That is why I only go to certain shops where I like the people cause they treat me like a rider, and not a girl that knows nothing

Sorry Trace, but you know that's how it goes! Just think, the next time you go buy your next bike - you can go in alone and ask some serious questions that will let the sales peeps know you are a bona fide serious biker!

Or ... you could play to stereotype and be all "ooh, I like this bike - it's a pretty colour!"
"I like to ride anyplace, anywhere, any time, any way!"

yeah well i already do ask serious questions about my purchases, which is why i only go to certain dealers, cause their guys actually talk to me and give me the details of all my options etc

I'll have to remember to put in a cup the next time she comes along. With how often she does actually turn up at least I have a while, she's already been on her swarm ride for the year.

So you've swapped the foot in the mouth for a shovel, and now the shovel for an excavator ... go you!

Next trick? She stay barefoot, pregnant and chained to the kitchen stove?
