I don't mind if i get stopped while out on my bike or in the car. The police have a job to do. One week they may be targeting motorcyclists next week it may the idots not waring helmets on the push bikes. Just let them do their job. I occassionaly hear about the shit they have to put up with when they come through my work and i wouldnt want their job. If you show respect you will get it back.
Licence offences are the hardest ones to sort out. Someone riding a bike, doing everything right (or at least, legal), might be a disqualified, forbidden, suspended or unlicenced driver, or riding a bike with only a car licence.
If it weren't for a random stop and check, how would the Popo know? Sorry, but we're not gifted with ESP.
Haven't read the whole thread, just a comment. I have heard that something like 30% of bikers don't have the licence they need to be riding a bike, for any of the above mentioned reasons. Isn't it an agreement we all have as motorists, that we will have the right licence to operate any vehicle on public roads? After all, isn't that what a licence is? Authority to drive, given by consent of the population via the gubbermint c/- the Popos?
Out of interest, I have 40 of those bags in my locker at work. At some stage my team will be stopping and checking bikers' licences, and giving the bags out. The bags will only go to those wearing good gloves, good bike pants, decent footwear, a good jacket, a good helmet, riding legally and not like a dick. Not copping a 'you're picking on me, discrimination blah blah blah' is also a prerequisite.
Jacko, Scummie, you out there? Always interested in the views.
Bring it on.
Random stops........meh!
What does concern me though, is the amount of Pommie cops out there, that aren't familiar with Hinckley Triumph's.I mean come on, they're a slice of home.

Yes I know - that's why I was very careful with the wording!
The last I heard it was the Classic range being manufactured there, though that was a while ago and I understood more models were expected to be manufactured there, so your list is probably right.Though you're right and possibly more than you know. I understand Thailand are doing Sprint's, Bonnie's, Speed/Street Triples, Thunderbird's, Daytona's and Tiger 800's.
It does detract a little from the 'Made in England' thing which is important to some, but I note that Triumph are very careful to keep all traces of country of manufacture off the bikes, no little 'made in China' stickers here folks!
Still, the Thais seem to be doing a good job and if it keeps the prices down it has to be a good thing. And after all, everybody is doing it these days - Harley have Taiwanese and Chinese components, Ducati has some Chinese components as I'm sure do most other European brands and many Japanese brands are using factories in Thailand to build their product now.

yeah i guess if bikers were widely known to be friendly and respectful road users, who obeyed their licence limitations and the road rules at all times then we wouldnt be having this discussion would we![]()
