No idea but i like your style.
Must drag you out for a "Round the Hunuas - do all the dams" trip. Not a huge amount of gravel but an entertaining ride and some truly magic views. Even the odd airstrip or two in the most unlikely places.
Would be bloody marvellous if we had a key to some of the gates.
I may not be as good as I once was, but I'm as good once as I always was.

The gates never used to be locked, and now because of some arseholes we can't ride to the top of the dams anymore.

I have a couple of photos like that too Paul, but it wasn't those gates I was referring to - it was the next set that let you out into the Hunuas proper. They are walking and mountain bike tracks now but many are still vehicle tracks if you only had a key. There are several gates into the Hunuas too, from what are otherwise blind roads all around the range.
However I suspect that I'm not telling you anything that you don't already know.
I may not be as good as I once was, but I'm as good once as I always was.

Sounds like a good idea, I'm always frustrated scooting past there on the coast road when I can see there has to be lots of far more interesting roads to play on. Let me know when you want to go for a wander.

    Good photos Paul!

The day I took this photo there was a Landrover out of shot to the left, there was a couple of guys with guns who said they were going pig hunting. I know about the tracks,I used to ride them in the '70's....but guys with guns makes me nervous.

theres a few of us meeting at Westgate to head over at 7-7.30 so we can pick ya up on the way thru if there's a pullover area - Market Road-ish area is roomy. We'll be the one's looking like we're going on an RTW.

I have been trying to make it to one of your events since you started, but you seem to have a un-canny ability to have all your rides/events when I am busy.

But it appears my sunday has opened up so I was wondering if it would be ok if I met up with the ride in Waihi on sunday AM?

Shewolf do you mean Market Road as in off ramp for Remuera and Greenlane? What time do you reckon you will be there? If I miss you I will catch up with you all at Howick.

Accommodation: I am planning on Staying at the Whitianga Hotel rather than camping. They appear to have multi bed rooms available on their website. Anyone interested in sharing or do you have a room already booked with spare beds. Promise I dont smell and only snore quietly, you can throw boots at me if I lie!

    Thumbs up

Market Rd yeah - there's a bit of room on the shoulder there, we'll be coming through at 7.30am I reckon, shouldn't be too much traffic to zip in with us - otherwise yep, see you at Howick
