Halloween was a celtic custom that didn't involve any "trick or treats". In North America, trick or treat has been a customary Halloween tradition since at least the late 1950s leave it in North America and don't bring it to NZ.

If you want to receive gifts in NZ then re-introduce the Celtic traditions of souling, where children and poor people would sing and say prayers for the dead in return for cakes.

How about a bunch of random kids knocking on your door demanding stuff. Any other time of year that's called extortion.

Mmmm...I'm in a new neighbourhood this year.

At the last place all the local kids knew I was a grumpy old bastard who lived on his own with just a cat for company and spent his free time roaring about the countryside on an overpowered motorcycle, outraging motorists and frightening livestock and little children - definitely a weirdo and most likely a paedophile. So they were all way too scared to come down my driveway.

Let's hope those rumours have come to the new neighbourhood with me...

I was about to say that bikers seem to be dicks. But then I realised that the opinions expressed here are the opinions of most old people in NZ. I'm hoping that when your generations die out, that our generation actually become friendlier with our neighbours, and community spirit holidays like this actually take off.

    I guess I will wait.

who the hell are you kidding? As the generations progress they get more insular and self centred. This shit is all pretend sharing, bring back the big neighbourhood Guy Fawkes Bon fires and scrub this commercialised paedophiles holiday.

For me it has nothing to do with community and everything to do with objecting to the Amerification of NZ.
