I like to have the gps for when the route sheets go wrong (which with me, they tend to do).

I really enjoyed the 2010 DB1k, following the route sheet (from printed a4 sheets, printed in a5, double rows in my tank-bag)

So I would say, I like route sheets but the gps feels like a good safety backup (hard to step back through a route sheet if you miss a marker or a reset).

I use the GPS heavily but havn't used routesheets at all. I'd like to give it a go some time but only with a GPS as backup.

I have however found some good rollchart software for Android that has potential

I am sure the roll charts will be fine. It's not a race and there will be enough time to complete the course.

Follow someone that looks like they know the way to go, if they get it wrong, enjoy the added "new" section!

All good unless ma baker comes running out of a farmhouse with a shotgun!

If you are planning to go wrong in the forest, make sure you pack a big lunch. Then again, you can always bail out on the beach, if you can make it past the dunes.

I am no roll chart genius myself and have done the "follow some other poor soul" routine in the past. However, these charts are not written to confuse you. If you do pay attention and ride your own ride, as you should, they will get you there. Navigation is part of the fun, just don't miss the reset points and don't spin your rear wheel too much, if you are riding a beemer.

Yes, and there is a bloody tree across it. If you're on a skinny bike it's no sweat getting past. I forgot that I wasn't. Maybe I should have paid attention and put my feet down. But hey, what are engine guards for and I am sure I can fibreglass that lamp housing.

Thanks Nordie, I'll just leave it in the shed till my kit arrives. The plates might be a bit toasted now. I can wait a bit longer

Friday 11th Nov BBQ at my place on the North Shore of Auckland, not far from Takapuna 4pm onwards.

How many of you reprobates should I expect turning up?
I already have Clint and Rosie saying so there will be 3 of us at least.

Will be byo meat and beer (there is a butcher/supermarket/liquor store all very near-by for all your BBQ needs).
I will have bread/sauces and a chilly-bin or two with ice for your beverages.

    PM me for address details.
