Stuck on glove choice

Hey all,

Im stuck on choice of gloves. Im after something around the $150-$200NZ dollar mark and cant seem to find anything reasonable that isnt astars

Something along the lines of the Rev'it Apex (hard to find and a bit overpriced) or the Astars SP1 would suit

Any ideas appreciated

Mine are wearing out after a couple of years and one fall. I'm probably going to replace them with the same. Best gloves in the country for the price IMO.

recently aquired a couple of pairs of the '5' brand gloves. They arent cheap.... pair of winter and 'summer' weight gloves. They winter ones are probably the best gloves I have owned since the demise of my much loved and missed 'Stein' gloves. Rode 40 mins in the snow conditions (wellington to kapiti coast) with the winter ones, and fingers were good! (warm).. good finish, well made.

Qmoto are good. I also have a new pair of Teknics that I like.
Having crashed in my Qmoto SPS gloves and seeing just how good a job they did at protecting my hand I only buy gloves with the SPS sliders.

Given the number of scaphoid injuries you hear about I'm amazed that it's so hard to find SPS equipped gloves.

How's the stitching in the fingers of yours holding up? I bought a pair of these a few months ago and had to take them back to the shop to have the ends of a few fingers restitched. I bought them for the fit (my hands don't fit most gloves very well) but for nearly $200 I wasn't expecting to be seeing skin through them after not more than 3000km of riding.

Mine are fine and I've probably done equal to the 3000k's distance you covered. Maybe different 'design' of gloves? I tend to use traditional look gloves, rather than sport/race gloves. I also always oil/feed any new gloves, jackets, boots before using them, maybe that's a difference?

I have some Qmoto gloves and they are not bad but for the money your looking at spending id consider some alpinestars or the likes. ive had my alpinestars for over 10years and love them!

Quasi does great gloves.
I had a pair of his original ones, purchased back around 2005. The area between the palm and the thumb finally wore through on the left one (wear and tear with use of clutch). Since he no longer does such a cheap glove, and I'm of Scottish descent, I went with a pair of 1Tonne Spike sports gloves.
They are also great, especially considering the price. See TradeMe.
Mind you, the mark of a great glove isn't how long they last, but how well they protect in an off. Not planning on testing that...

Pardon my ignorance but what oil feed do you use and how do you apply it? Spray? Rub it on?

Gloves are a big deal for me, if I dont have something I find comfy then I find my entire ride is full of annoyance,
and I find gloves with a full cuff all the time to be a pain in the ass as well,
If your just doing summer riding and your not doing break neck speeds then the likes of stunt gloves might be a viable option?
I have some Fox motocross gloves with leather palms and carbon knuckle protectors etc, I use these for my daily commute as its only 50km/h - 70km/h I have worn them on a couple of long trips but you end up bruising your fingers on the likes of stones and bugs and shit like that, so I have some old leather summer gloves that have lasted me coming up 2 years but have finally become shagged around the cuff as it was an elastic stretch cuff.

I know someone who has some of the Qmoto gloves and they have no complaints about them

Who makes a glove with an elastic cuff?

With the new leather jacket, none of my glove cuffs will come up over the sleeves without squeezing the seam on the sleeve into my wrist. or else the cuff wont come over the sleeve far enough to allow the glove to fit my hand.

The jacket sleeve is too narrow to fit over the glove cuffs. Like Drunken mistake, I'm going to look at the MX style of gloves. At the moment I'm using a pair of ski gloves with an elastic wrist cuff. They are brilliant for fit and comfort.
