Canterbury Wednesday Night Ride

Nice sibrit, how far did you get? or just to Arthurs Pass and back?

Just to the avalanche shelter for a toilet break, then thought "screw it", and rode back. I'd already been riding 3 hours (with breaks), and just couldn't be arsed to keep going. Next time I'll take provisions, and bring my camera and GPS.

Was a tad concerned by the lack of cellular reception out in the boondocks. Castle Hill? Castle friggin middle of nowhere Hill more like.... But nice surroundings. 500 sqm sections for $130,000. The commutes a bitch though.

Think it was about 300km there and back. Not bad for a Thursday ride.

Is anyone likely to be riding on Sunday? I got to get back on - I've completely losing confidence. I am eyeing my bike like it's a grumpy stallion everytime I walk through the garage... Think I should have kept my GB400

Hi JB. Was thinking of a ride on Sunday. Haven't been out for a while. Got cabin fever crossed with the dreaded lurgi.

Went and did the loop today with J on the back of the Transalp.
Have decided I agree with her in that we like the Lewis Pass better than Arthurs, to me it just seems to be nicer for longer.
Actually even better is the bit between Reefton and Springs Junction, it's a section of road I am tempted to turn around an do again as soon as I've been through it... which makes lunch in Reefton seem like a good idea, going via the Lewis Pass both directions.
You do have to get up toward the Hanmer turnoff on the way up to get to where the good stuff really sets in though... a few boring bits mixed in with the bends before that.

Sunday, I expect I'll be doing some walking as it seems I've emptied my tank a couple of times for this weekend already.

Yea, it's like that over a lot of the country away from the major towns and cities. Most of the population is covered but most of the country is not.

To Reefton and back to Christchurch IS a nice ride. That 15 km (not to be taken lightly) corner at the Springs end of the Reefton Springs bit ... does need care though ... Heavy vehicles chew up the seal and can leave a loose surface ...

Actually sorry just heard that a bunch of friends are riding over to Akaroa from Wheatsheaf car park at 11:30. Couple of us leaving from the Avonhead side of town about 10:30 - I have been promised it is a slow ride. I was looking forward to meeting you Gloplug but the earlier time suits me better. Feel free to join us or I will see you next time.

Maxf and I went for a relaxing stroll to the Wheatsheaf via Halswell and then back to town round the bays. Thanks for the company Max. Wind was a bit horrible though.
