I also assume the OP knows what leather actually is, and he/she can do their own research based on replies to their thread.

It would appear that YOU have put jet leathers on the kiwibiker wiki, so why would you make these comments if you had done 'some' research when updating the wiki.

My brando style jacket is a Neo Leather one from Rolling thunder here in ChCh cost $280.
No complaints yet seems well made and is very comfy.

I wore this for about six months. Most excellent quality leather.

Just be aware that jacket has zero armour in it. I stopped wearing my Natural Wear leather equivalent which I have had since 1987 for the same reason.

I was in our local triumph shop the other day and they had some nice looking (albeit TRIUMPH branded) jackets for a good price.

Theoretically, the more you pay, the more features you will get: better quality leather, better armour (elbow, shoulder) and stuff like vents because leather is a bitch on a hot day. Maybe zip out thermal linings, full circumference zips, blah de blah. Definitely try out a bunch. Leather will soften too after a while.

Oh, and you have to maintain it. clean, conditioner, etc. No biggie but it will make a difference to the life of the leather and feel of the jacket. Soon it will be as comfy on you as it was on the cow that donated it.

also, try it on with your back protector to ensure it fits over it. You do wear a back protector, yes?

thats a good point when i took my OLD jacket to be altered(back to the guy that had made it)he fitted elbow and shoulder armour and made allowance for a back protector

Mmmm...kind of agree. My jacket (which I cannot part with) was made in Christchurch in the 1980s and still serves me well. However it has no armour at all and now that I have a 1Tonne textile jacket with armour and Quasi trou similarly armoured....well, the modern stuff has its attractions.

I should add I binned in my leathers (including a waist belt which was excellent) and lived - but not particularly well. The only extra which would have helped was a neck brace of some nature. C4 fracture. Makes a bloke think.

i would think you coulld get your jacket altered/modified to accept armour.

I bought my first and only leather two piece, seven years ago from a shop in blenheim. "Rjays daytona 2 piece".

The jacket was around $500 and I still wear it almost everyday. It doesn't quite look as good as it did when new, but it has seen rain, snow, hail, grass, dirt, sweat, blood, duct tape and the road on several occasions. Had the center zip replaced a while back. Has all the requisite armor and a zip to couple the pants and jacket together. Only thing I wish it had is a removable liner to aid in cleaning.

If I had to, I would definitely shell out another $500 for the same jacket.

My bike sustained $3k of damage a month ago. I landed on my shoulder and elbow. Zero damage to me (not even a bruise). Jacket still ok - no stitching popped.

Don't baulk at the price. a) it will last many many years, b) will protect you, c) looks and feels excellent.
