I have lived near him for the past 2 years and while he used to annoy me (see above reasons) I am a little saddened by his death - I am glad he is off the street but didn't want him to be because of his death.
Death is rather sad, but also because his state of mind ultimately lead to his death
I guess we will never really know the full story on why he was there but he did strike me as someone with a lot of issues and for that to lead to death, is sad

Not to say I'm going to contribute to his shrine or his funeral, or that he was an up-standing citizen worthy of a countries respect. Doesn't mean it isn't a little sad

Let's hope it never transpires that Blanket Man once rode a motorcycle.

The R.I.P. thread would go on for months.

Yes it is, and I've had to deal with a fair bit of it myself of late. I hope GM is going to pay for all of the damage and vandalism that's happened to the facade of the ANZ etc too. As far as BM's family not being able to afford a funeral? Doesn't cost much I'm sure to bury him on your local marae I'm sure? How come they all want something to do with him now he's dead?

Hardly a role model, hardly a father to his children. Seems as if he is being glorified just for being highly visible and for being a character

What about all the unseen good men, working hard and quietly raising their kids.

In context it kind of sticks in their throats a bit?

The cult of personality? I knew him too.... we spoke of suffering....he was a great guy....

    Eulogies are seldom correct.

Guy reminds me of a preacher ministering emotional blackmail to others to do better in life. Then does little with their own life, all the while with a holier than thou attitude

oh wait......thats was me too init...awetism

    So has GM.

So what? Get the church to pay then. They're good enough at taking money off others.

Ach, we pay the council for removing graffiti. I would rather GM funded a mural for the guy, perhaps a fully functional wax work . The main "problem" I have with it, is that a guy wanted to live on the street, and because he did so and lived in what is seen as an "unclean" way, be it for mental or "political" reasons, the "problem" is that he was treated differently. That's the bit I don't like. If he didn't "want" or "need" help, he shoulda had meals on wheels and have, and had many of his needs met, including a smoke or two to while away his days and noone would have known any differently. I wonder what 20ish years (that's a fuckin long time, as is 1 year) of living on the street and being "abused" by pissed people and the "haters" does to a person? That's what pisses me off. He may well have been a cunt, he's by no means the only one though was he?

I think he was 'treated differently' because he sat in his own piss and shit (in a public place) and wanked in public.

He is probably the only known person to actually smell better now that he is dead.
