    Vt250 Spada carb issue!

Hi guys, I have a 89 spada I've rebuilt, problem I'm having now is that it's a pain to start, will only run with the choke fully on and if I try give it any throttle it just dies. Admittedly it has been sitting for a few years although I did have it running great a few months ago until I stripped it to be painted, now it won't run! Any help would be great! I suspect the problem lies with the carbs...?

buy some carb cleaner and strip and clean the carbs, the fuel that was left in the carbs has turned in to varnish and blocked the jets that is why it will only run on choke.

Blocked/dirty jets, or your vacuum line to the fuel tap is pinched/split.
Might be able to have a look at it for you if you can't get it running sometime this week

I might pull the carbs off and strip and clean and see how I go, my issue is setting up jets etc? I take it they also need balancing?

Jets are easy to clean Might have a few in my tool box if you need 'em.

Hey man, I had a similar problem with my Spada a couple of years back. Evidently there is a commonly occurring problem with a diaphragm/seal in the fuel tap that corrodes over time, if you search the forums on this site you'll find two or three posts from people with similar problems. I didn't have to replace my fuel tap though, I drained the carbs, then pulled the fuel tap apart, cleaned it and put it back together and ran sweet. I'm pretty sure I found a couple of references on external websites that helped too [and I also got some good advice from ducatilover]

Spadas are awesome bikes! I presume you have the manual, I have both user and service manual in pdf form if you need? (Send a PM).

If you clean the carbs etc and it doesn't work, you can have the jets.
I do think cleaning the carbs will sort it, and as mentioned the fuel tap. They're quite troublesome
