Ha ha, the trouble with edits, they don't show up as new posts in subscriptions or on the forum index.

I went out in the sunshine yesterday so think I will skip tonight.

    Distances....
Gretta (~80km to 100km depending upon going via Waikari or not) is about the same as the Akaroa distance (~83km) but a bit longer than the Little River run (~55km each way).

Seven of us arrived mostly intact at Greta Valley having had a slightly damp ride. One of our number stopped to pick daisies along the way. He was soon back on his bike and manfully took the ribbing he got at the pub. I hope you will continue to ride with us.

It was a little damper coming home.

Those of our number who piked missed a good if cool and damp ride.

Next week I've organised to be off again. Little River via Barry's Bay anyone?????
And remember ...... if it hasn't got one of "Uncle Flip's" prosthetic kickers it isn't a real motorbike!!!

Very glad to hear you are not giving up on us BOR. I hope the rest of your motorcycling will be incident free.

I doubt there is room in the group for more than one film star. And Dave laid down on the road so elegantly, then continued to give me cornering lessons with no footpegs on his bike.

Saddens me that on this Wednesday Night Ride, a ride that was meant to help learners pick up some knowledge, that another rider appears to have run out of road yet again.
    What's happening and why ??

On another topic, I'm thinking about lunch in Reefton via Lewis on either the 24th if weather look ok (or 31st as a backup date) this month. They be Saturdays. Anyone interested in a cruise there without breaking any speed limits ?

Might start a new thread closer to the day.
Thinking it would be 8:30am depart from the Peg for lunch about mid day at the Bakery/Cafe first on the left.

Been wondering the same thing myself

Maybe that's why I'm very picky with whom I choose to ride, and why I usually prefer to avoid group rides

I fucked up and took a corner too fast in the wet.
Really stupid mistake, but lesson learnt.

Thankfully I landed in long grass and the worst I did to myself was sprain my neck

Will make it the 24th if weather looks ok, 31st as the backup date. Probably depart from the Peg (Belfast Tavern) at 8:30am aiming to be at the Bakery/Cafe about mid day.

Ok, so that is usually what happens with or without the wet.
Been there, done that... long time ago now.
Several Road Saftey Courses and an attitude adjustment since then, I'm planning for it not to happen again.

I wonder what you think the actual lesson was and could anyone here have said or done anything to make you think more about what you are doing thus maybe preventing the event.
I'd love to get much deeper in to this but not so much online as it really is hard to get to know the real person and their thought processes over the net.

Always a good run - I'd be a starter (but would confirm closer to the time).

When you ride as often as we do, and in so many differing conditions, differing styles of bikes and differing skill levels,
Incidents will happen more so than if you are riding alone.
My own incident was due to a change of bike style,
Going from a naked sports tourer, with plenty of HP, good brakes and good tires
To a lower powered cruiser style bike which was brand new, only 200Km on the clock
with brakes not yet worn in properly, tires that were of poor quality, and riding it too fast for its ability to handle the conditions.
Going into the corner too fast, relying only on the front brake, and expecting the bike to turn like my bigger road bike does.
The front just plain did not grip, and she lay down on me in protest.
I have since then learnt a different style of riding, with fewer expectations of the bikes ability.
And that is where I think our problems stem from
We ride together each week, and see what others are doing with their ride,
We expect our own ability and our bikes ability to match what we see
    This does not always work.
Does this mean we should stop?, No, Does it mean we should change how we ride in groups? No.
It in the end comes back to the individual to make the choice how they ride and with whom.
I am still learning , after riding for more years than I will admit to, and I am still a novice.
Every bike rides a different way, every rider has his style, every road its own dangers
Nobody can ever learn it all, no matter how many miles they ride.
You are foolish to think you ever will.
Ride to the conditions, ride your own ride, dont ride to your EGO.
To be old and wise, first you must be young and stupid.
