Yep, he sure deserves a medal. It would be nice if more people got involved in trying to make this a better place.
A few years ago I chased a shoplifter for about 500 metres before he fell over. I naively thought he would wait for the Police but he decided he didn't want to, tried to assault me and that led to us wrestling on the ground for about 10 minutes. No body else stepped in to help but I was fit and really angry so he got beasted by me.
My lady was upset when I told her and asked "what if he had had a knife?". It had not even occurred to me, I mean I didn't even expect to end up tackling him, but I guess I would have just stayed clear and kept following him until the Police turned up.
I take my hat off to Jade for taking on a guy with knives, especially when he could see that damage had been done to others.
Give him a great big shiny gong, a certificate, name a street after him, make a big song and dance, present him to John Key and Uncle Jerry, give him something he can show his kids and grandkids and hopefully also inspire others to do what should be done instead of just being a bystander.
THAT last part of your sentence sums up precisely what is wrong with our society - nobody wants to get 'involved'.
Sure, there is the risk of being hurt by the idiot you tackle - but a lot more people out there could do a lot more than just standing there with their gob open saying 'omg' etc and/or hanging onto their cell-phone yacking some friend about what they've just seen instead of calling the cops, following the idiot etc
Rant over.
