Alternative rear shock for Yamaha XJ400 Diversion

I'm thinking of changing the rear shock of the XJ400 as it's rather soft, even at the hardest setting. It's fine for commuting, as it floats over minor uneven surfaces comfortably, but the fact that it sinks down a good bit with me just sitting on it concerns me, as well as cornering capability.

Does anyone know if shocks from other models work in the XJ400? e.g. XJ6 or other models using a mono-shock. Will a rear shock from a XJ600 be an improvement?

there is a hagon shock importer based in NZ your local bike shop should be able to give you a price. The XJ600 diversion shock should fit and usally has a heaver spring rate as it is set up for general export not for some 45kg jap bike rider, finding a low milage good condition one will be the problem. Once you fix the rear shock the front forks will show there shortcomings, would pay to do the fork spings at the same time.

Span-Spin - Thanks. I may be able to get hold of a XJ600 rear shock.

NZspokes - Heh! heh! Precisely why I'm worried about how it will handle. Light to medium cornering seem OK, but the floaty feeling isn't reassuring, is all...

DL - Thanks... Too pricey for me though.

May be able to find a nice second hand unit on eBay? I had twin Hagon shocks on my CB400, very nice bits of kit.

Managed to get a XJ600 rear shock. When I get it fixed in, I'll get the front fork oil changed to 15wt, that usually helps a lot.
